Oh, that had to be hard, knowing that something was wrong but not wanting to press too hard. :( I'm sorry you had to go through that.

This is a crushing tale, and I know a bit about this because a friend's dad was out for an anniversary dinner and died at the restaurant that night a couple of months ago. There is no "good" time for it to happen, but you hope to be a bit more prepared, for certain. This serves as a good reminder to try to be there for each other because we simply don't have the info about what lies ahead.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I think that Gretzy quote is for the ideal situation-- those times in life where things are just flowing, and we can't go wrong. But that doesn't last forever. Real life has pitfalls and ambushes, and you never know when those will come.

Hugs. Fathers never do tell you if they're really sick. I think they don't admit it, even to themselves. Hugs and peace~~~D

I can remember one time where dad had to admit that something was wrong, and that was only because he broke his arm after a defective ladder gave way under him.

I am so sorry about your father. The Gretzky quote may work in hockey or in baseball ("Hit 'em where they ain't"), but not in life. Life is much more like your mud puddle than a hockey game.
