Red can best be described as absently impulsive. He sees something in his way, he fixes it. The thought that there could be another way doesn't even register in his mind as he's already making a plan to eliminate whatever is standing in his way. He never did anything to get famous (what he wanted was to get to the top on his own) he just stopped people because (a) it was in his way, or (b), which always came secondary to (a) - it was wrong and it would hurt people.

Red can definitely be called a selfish person who really only wanted to change the world because if he left it as it was, he wouldn't get his goals. That isn't to say that he didn't care about the people involved and didn't run around to help anyone who really needed it, but everything was really an afterthought to his dream of becoming the Pokemon Master. No matter how brave or noble the boy who would eventually become champion seemed, he was just a determined 11 year old with a dream.

Socially awkward to the max, the dark haired boy also had no knack for making friends. Most of his deeds were done, and the people were kept at arms length. The closest thing he'd ever had to a friend was Green and we all know how well that turned out. When their friendship fell apart he eventually turned to Pokemon and found the friendships he'd longed for. While Red may be godawful with people, he's able to bring out a Pokemon's hidden potential because he forms very strong connections with them. His (short) self-imposed exile to Mt. Silver was an attempt to become even stronger with his team without the interference of the outside world.

But that isn't to say that he doesn't take his duties as Champion seriously. When he heard Team Rocket was on the move again he had plans to go find them and stomp them out before they could cause trouble in the land that was so obviously his now - but they got to him first. As a then barely twelve year old, there wasn't much he could do against them once the gun had been fired. Now that he's out and free he fully intends to take his country back.

However, the years in captivity have left their mark. Red's socially awkward behaviour is even worse. He limits his time around people and doesn't meet their eye. His poor hearing makes it hard for him to follow conversations with multiple people, and people with strong accents or low voices really are impossible for him to understand. He himself doesn't talk very loudly and will even walk away from conversations when he feels he's said all he's needed to say... but after the years by himself, he can't stand to be alone for long periods of time and eventually wanders out again. Talking loudly is difficult and straining his throat is just a bad idea, so he remains as silent as he can.

ADDING ONTO THIS; Red has a very limited understanding of sex, love, and all that goes with it. He spent most of his teenaged years in a room that was practically a box and his scope of understanding is really restricted to the fuzzies Misty gave him and the thrill fighting Green gave him. When someone mentions the L word he can't really wrap his head around it... and sex? He doesn't want it near him. In his head that's tied into love and as he's not sure about either, he avoids it and everything around it because he doesn't understand.

He is actually somewhat bitter about missing out on so much of his life and has a very hard time carrying on any sort of normal conversation with anyone his age. There have been times when someone has attempted to persuade him to ask one of his fans in the compound out or teased him about being a virgin and he's simply walked off without another word to them, and continued to ignore any further interaction with them. So far, Green is the only one who has been able to approach the subject without finding himself snubbed for the rest of his life (though he's been punched once, and then the second time was ignored for nearly two months).

That said? He thinks he wants to have a normal relationship... if the fight with Team Rocket doesn't kill him... but he's not sure. He's looked at magazines and watched television and he's seen that scars, mental and physical, aren't really attractive. It doesn't bother him that much. He harbours his doubts about surviving the fight, but he wants to make it to Giovanni and destroy him. Red himself isn't certain if this means bringing him to justice or killing him - but he'd never admit to this, not even to himself.

He finds it very difficult to be in a hospital setting. If you can treat him without getting thrown across the room you must either be Green or Professor Oak.

Green removed Red's hat once. The reaction was - rather pitiful. Red reacted badly without the beaten old thing covering up his scars. He didn't stop shaking or move until Green managed to talk him down and reassured him that it was fine. Removing the hat is a bad idea. The reaction will either be violent or a near breakdown.

He can't sleep now unless Espeon and Pikachu are by his side. Ideally, he'd prefer to be in a place where all his Pokemon can sleep with him. The idea isn't really to protect himself but for them to be able to run if Team Rocket approaches.

Being in that place has completely robbed him of any ability to survive on his own. He has no common sense when it comes to cooking, cleaning, or doing laundry and requires people to either do it for him or to walk him through the steps again and again. This frustrates him to no end.

He wants his mother so badly it hurts. She refused to leave the house when the rebels abandoned Kanto for Johto because she believed he would come home - he has no idea if she's safe or not and has frequent nightmares that she's been kidnapped and tortured like he was... then again, he has nightmares often. It's rare for him to get a peaceful night's sleep. He sleeps better outside or when there's another human being he trusts nearby.

He doesn't eat regularly for two reasons; one, he gets nauseous very easily and eating big meals makes him feel sick... adding that on his tendency to forget that regular meals are available has him over eating, making himself sick, and then avoiding food until something brings him to it. It's a vicious cycle. Two, he honestly forgets.

The headaches are more frequent than he lets on and they're getting worse. It's both a matter of pride and his concern that if found out, he'll be removed from the fight against the rockets entirely... but there are days when even dim light is like sharp stabs to his brain and he disguises his refusal to leave his room as his own antisocial tendencies acting up. He has bad nosebleeds too.
