Since I have much more time now, with no school and essentially no job yet, I've been reading a lot more books than I have in the past year or so. Even though I haven't read regularly for so long though, it seems I still haven't broken my habit of reading a book in just one sitting.
1. The Loser Club, John Lekich: A book that I've read before way back in junior high; it made me cry back then. Still touches me, evidently, but feels a whole lot shorter than it did back then. Rereading books is always fun. I have yet to borrow "Up on Cloud Nine" to reread it, but that will just have to wait until the next time I head to the library.
2. Beka Cooper, Tamora Pierce: Latest addition to Pierce's Tortall series, it's a prequel to everything she has written thus far about Tortall. Written in the form of a journal and contained within one book (she used to always only write quartets, and it's only recently that she broke away from that habit), it's about the female ancestor of George Cooper, who I believe to be the husband of the first Lady Knight in a very long time, Alanna. In any case, I really want to reread the entire Tortall series, as well as all the books in the Circle of Magic series, including the newest addition, also contained in a single book. I guess she really does want to move away from the quartets.
Something that always struck me about Pierce, though, is her obsession with female protagonists. In all of her books, there has ever only been one male protagonist, that being Briar from The Circle of Magic; all other have been female. Is this an indication of feminism or what?
3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling: The latest book I've read all in one sitting--yes, I finally decided that I should read it--it was, in my opinion, quite disjointed. As I described it to Betsy and Priscilla, I felt that it was too much focus on events and not enough focus on the people. Also, I don't know what possessed J.K. Rowling to suddenly throw in the tale of the Deathly Hallows; it felt rather hurried and not completely well-planned. Too much crammed into one volume, if I might venture an opinion. In any case, I can't say it doesn't bear a second reading, just to be a little more thorough (I have yet to figure out just exactly where Harry managed to witness the deaths of Lupin and Tonks) and try to read into it a little more.
Anyway, I've got another three books of a quartet waiting for me, not to mention all the LSAT books I borrowed from the public library for practice, as my LSAT exam is coming up on June 16th. So far, I have determined that my analytical reasoning (the math-type ones) require little studying, whereas I am somehow getting pwned by the logical reasoning because my answers are never COMPLETELY wrong, just overly speculative and not the best ones in the list. Reading comprehension follows the same path. I cannot even begin to express how frustrating it is. XD
(At this point in time, I could write something about the Sichuan Earthquake in order to make myself seem somewhat less apathetic about current events, and I did want to, but it suddenly felt quite pretentious, because honestly, I don't know what to say about it, beyond offering the victims my best wishes in overcoming this tragedy.)
- Tomorrow, I will actually put effort into finding a job. Or rather, later today, after I wake up from sleep.
- I do so want to go kite-flying, with nothing but the endless blue sky all around. The sky is so beautiful.
- Lately, I've found myself humming more and singing to myself again. And singing when all around me is just wind and sky, and it doesn't really matter if other people hear me singing to nothing. I remember I used to do that a lot as walked home from school on my own in elementary.
