I had this great idea

Okay, it's a horrible idea. But it would be awesome.
FDA plus hand to hand. Weapon hits as normal; feet and fists only for torso hits. I really want to try this. Perhaps it's the lack of the sleep.

If you're in the area with the gear, I'm down! Or maybe I'll swing by your region sometime in the next few months :)

I'm not heading south any time soon, but do feel free to stop by the wet northlands... :)

They have this over in California I think.

I don't think these guys count taps as limb outs, though. It's probably more like, limb outs count as tap outs. Or something.

That looks amazing. I don't prefer the grappling, but the rest of it. They're using fencing masks, which is interesting. I guess those weapons must be rattan? Fencing gear really isn't designed for that particular kind of abuse, but I suppose it must work relatively well for them.

The focus seems to be on combat effectiveness rather than style. If you watch those videos you'll see them using the end of the stick to jab each other while locked on the ground, or using the entire stick to choke out the opponent. It's pretty brutal. I love the turning into an armbar from mount, though. Classic.

...and just earlier tonight, I was like; "Dude! Boffer-safe frisbee attacks!"

That, and I'm a wuss but hell if I'm engaging in a game where you and Eure are AIMING for my torso with your bare limbs. That would hurt. A lot.

Also strikes to the torso are usually way more painful to women for obvious reasons. Plus, there's usually some protrusion, which makes for a closer target.

You could get a turtle bra and ameiliorate the pain disadvantage, but as for the reach disadvantage I'm not sure if much can be done, but it didn't seem to affect Red Sonja. Not that Red Sonja comes up often in my conversations, or anything (whistles).

You could require the men to wear turtle bras as well, and this would more or less even things out, and also have high comic value!

Hey, I've got a lot of practice in controlling calibration. :þ When we spar against people of lower rank, we're supposed to let them set the speed and strength, which means we have to feel how hard they're hitting and give back only the same... :)

I done done that (surprise surprise...). 'Specially fun with knife fights, I found. And that's how we spar in kali ('cept the rules are different - the hand is the main target. and our foam sticks are rather less friendly). Huh knock yerself out huhuhuh :)

Yah, no surprise :) Sounds fun, but realistic. I like the unrealism of FDA swordfighting, and the temptation to go for the glory (torso) (gory?) rather than do the practical thing (pruning limbs).
