I just had a great idea for making a fairly effective porn filter. Create an index site, maybe something like del.icio.us, for porn. Let people use it to store references to their favorite pornography. On the flip side, use it to implement a porn filter for kids.

Yeah, I know there are problems, but it's so win-win!

That's brilliant!

One potential problem is that right wing zing-watts would start adding Sex ed sites and abortion sites...

You can start with these:

Which adults would recognize and ignore, and kids would then also not be able to see? I'm still not seeing a problem...

You can keep kids safe from porn by adding the whole internet, but I don't want to do that...or do you think that abortion and sex ed sites are inappropriate for kids of the age likely to be filtered?

Ah, no. I had hold of the wrong end of the stick, I think (though I don't have much problem with filtering programs being overly restrictive, since I think their use should be fairly tightly limited in the first place-Bayesian filtering is not a substitute for adult supervision). However, I still don't see this as a major problem, if the system was set up well: assuming that your ideal system would have some form of internal feedback (which was *not* something as spammable as direct voting-we could call it "rankpage" or something along those lines), the not-actually-porn sites would not get a high-enough "yes, it's porn" vote to get filtered out. Might take a little bit more work to set up than the Pimp My Cardinal idea (which had pretty minimal vote-spamming protections) but still, could probably be worked.
