My Sis kicks butt

I adore that we can chat and catch up on all the life stuff. How she's doing during her pregnancy, concerns I'm having about finding work and the not-so-friendly atmosphere of the town. She understands how the family reunion in Kap is not my cup of chai. She totally gets that although I don't feel the need to have my own children, why I am enjoying ( Read more... )

If't makes you feel any better, I'm in the same problem with jobs - I don't know how I've been able to find them so "easily" in past... but right now, I'm unemployed, losing money on rent and pissed off... I haven't been working for 20 years, but I've got a decent resume... and yet I'm not getting the min-wage ones either!

I wonder about the 'shooting oneself in the foot' factor.

When we take jobs simply because we have to and need to, despite being overqualified or not utilizing all our best traits - and especially for lower pay... does this cut the line of progress off entirely?

Once upon a time I was making over $9/hr and was at the job for two years. Am I now somehow doomed to only get minimum wage jobs because my most recent only paid as much as that?

I'm finding that although I haven't found the magic factor for producing my creative things quickly and to the tune of a decent income for myself, I'm getting bitter over the fact I shelved it for the sake of the marriage/family.

in the exact same position. it's insanely frustrating to figure out what people want. especially in a small town. in small towns it seems no one can get a min wage job, and in a city they'll take anyone.

unfortunately a lot of clothing sellers have a specific type they are looking for. Like... you have to be in the Victoria's Secret size range to work there. A lot of places will hire based on the age of their clientelle. They can't SAY that is why they won't hire you though.

Don't take it personally that this places don't want to hire you. Most of them are places you don't really want to work.

AND, when you go in for interviews make sure that you get across that you don't believe that any task is actually "beneath" you, and that you enjoy being part of the team and making sure the team functions smoothly and well. IF that means pitching in to fold mailers for the marketing department, wiping down tables in the conference room, or putting together huge presentations for the CEO, it is all good with you. :)

Yes, this is the attitude and sort of comment I make. Some places I could see the hiring practices being that way, and haven't given it a second thought because I find it very transparent. With this store I was probably too fancy for them despite the good attitude and willingness to work.

Thank you. The inspiration comes easily enough to me, I just need to wrap my head around the practical applications and technical side of marketing I suspect. Either way I think you're right, there is a certain 'verge of' feeling about the direction I'm turning.
