Hey everybody! I missed you all!! I have been one for sooo long it feels like years. I have had alot of projects going on over here which didn't leave me much time for my Ebay paintings (just some quick thrown together ones to keep my name out there)I have recently found out I am pregnant and have been busy spreading the news about this- my husband ( Read more... )

I was wondering where you went!

Oh wow! A new baby! That is so exciting! Congratulations to you both!!! >^__^< Any idea when you are due yet?

A commission of 36 paintings is a LOT. Be sure to get at least 1/2 of the $$ up front, just like any commissioned project. I can't stress that enough. I got burned once with something similar - a lot of people wanting book illustrations will try to say things like "Oh, we'll give you a % of the sales instead - there's a bigger potential there" and then the book never gets made, lol.

Definitely give a discount since they are commissioning so many. Whenever somebody commissions more than 5 pieces at a time from me I always offer a 30% discount, that seems pretty standard. You might want to talk to the publisher rather than the author - that seems kind of strange.... Unless it's like a self-published thing. Either way - sounds like a lot of work but could be fun!

Hey Jas, long time no see! Yeah we are so excited! The guesstimated due date is March 27th, at least I won't be Huge pregnant in the summer thank GOD!! It's so HOT right now~.................As for the book, thanks for the input. I figured you'd have the most knowledge on the subject. I looked up her books she's made in the past that are on amazon.com and she seems legit. People even rate them highly. She said she was personally contacting me becuase she liked my work and she wanted to be included in the designing process with me. She never mentioned at all about % she seems to want to pay for each piece, which is nice. The hard thing is I do not know what to charge at all. She wants to know how much I want for the 36 originals, 30% discount sounds about right, but I don't really even know what to charge for (1) 5" painting that is to be in a book. That is the hard part. I was thinking $50.00 a painting adding all 36 up and then offering the 30% disount. What do you think? I appreciate any help you can offer! Thanks so much! ~ By the ( ... )

Oh! A little Spring baby =) Oh man, my sister up in Kansas City is sweltering away - she's about 7-8 months pregnant now - I just went camping with her in 115 degree weather - eek!

I think $50 is very very reasonable (maybe too reasonable, hehe) for a work-for-hire. 36 paintings (especially commissioned) will probably take quite a while to do, and you have to think about the paintings that you *won't* have time to paint in the meantime, if you know what I mean. If you're willing to do them for $50 a pop though, I can't imagine they'd turn that down, hehe! It could be a good source of exposure, too =)

$50/painting sounds awful cheap to me! If she doesn't accept it, I'll be floored.
