never get sick in Japan

I swear if you get any kind of snot producing illness in this country the doctors here will tell you it's a fucking cold. I went to 2 different doctors yesterday cause I got sick with something fucked up.

I completely lost my voice yesterday so that nothing but a painful croaking sound came out when I attempted to speak, I was running a low grade fever of about 100F/38C, producing copious amounts of yellow mucus from both nose and throat, and on top of all that my muscles and joints ached so much that even my fucking toes hurt. This all started day before yesterday, then it peaked yesterday (so badly that I felt the need to go see a fucking doctor), and now is starting to quickly fade away.

The first doctor I went to did nothing but look in my throat for about 5 seconds to see that it was inflamed, then lift my shirt and stare at my breasts while listening to my heart with his stethoscope. After this he tells me I have the common cold (translated to me through Aki), then his nurse hands us a bunch of crazy looking powders that they still use for medicine here.

Unfortunately I was too out of it from being sick and too shocked at this kind of treatment from a doctor to really complain about it until Aki got me home. So after I bitched for a while we went to the new hospital that was just recently built down the street from us. The doctor who saw me there at least felt the glands in my throat and asked me (through Aki) a whole bunch of questions. He did some blood tests -- they love to give blood tests in this country -- and took a chest x-ray. After this he talked to Aki about some kind of bacterial infection and then said it was some kind of a cold, but gave me some really strong antibiotics anyway.

Heh, I guess they have a much broader definition of what a cold is here than what we call a cold in the states. Either that, or this is the worst cold in the existence of man. Anyway, I've lost any form of trust I might have had for Japanese doctors. I really don't think it's too much to ask that doctors in this country practice modern medicine. Here's to hoping that I can find a foreign doctor or at least a foreign taught doctor sometime in the near future.

Now hopefully I can stop being bitchy over this subject after ranting about it for so long.
