Albert and I are going to have ~7 days footloose and fancy free in Europe. Where should we visit? We will be departing from Paris, having spent the previous week there. Feel free to suggest anywhere within a day's travel by train, but not England since we visited there two years ago.

Strasbourg was nice, though we were there for less than a day.

Have you been to Italy? I absolutely fell in love with Venice, and Florence and Rome are pretty wonderful too.

Where did you go in England? I forget!

We started in Scotland, with a week in Edinburgh and Stirling, then stopped in York for a day on our way to Stratford-upon-Avon for four Shakespeare plays in as many days, plus the surrounding area. A few days toddling around Bristol, Bath, and Wiltshire, followed by most of a week in London, a quick trip up to the Yorkshire Dales and Lakes District, and an aborted attempt at Stonehenge that only got as far as Salisbury cathedral.

OK, you really HAVE done England. Don't let me discourage you from going back, though. :)

We're definitely going back at some point, but it's back down to fourth or fifth in the queue for now, behind a couple of trips to Europe, some national parks in the American west, and probably Ottowa. :P

The Alhambra in southern Spain. Actually, all of southern Spain. Just watch out for the gypsies (they're accomplished pickpockets).

Totally.

Also, you seem like you'd like Annecy.
