Silly things I believed as a kid

Walking past a traffic light this afternoon, I suddenly remembered that when I was a kid, I had no concept of how such things worked. And it got me thinking about some of the utterly silly things I believed as a kid. I thought I'd list a few, and then see what you all could add to the list ( Read more... )

Traffic lights DO know when there is a lot of traffic. They are timed as such.

Also, if you look on the ground right around where you stop, there's a box. This triggers a timer to let the light know that someone is waiting. You see them at busier intersections (though I don't know about NY that place is just weird)

When I was little, DC was in the middle of a bad crime wave, so there were always local news reports about someone being robbed at gunpoint. I was convinced that Gun Point was an actual place, a really terrible neighborhood where people were always getting robbed. I felt really sad that people had to keep living there, even though they were probably going to get robbed, since that was where all the crime was.

Up
