Well, I finally got me a job over at my old high school, doing grunt work for the tech department. Its more well paid than I would have assumed, and the hours are fixed and at reasonable times (a far cry from last year, where I had erratic and shifting times that stiffed me of a good wage). There's the Palo Alto Shape Note group that I'll try to visit at least once (I'll probably be the only one under forty there, but then again, pipe bands are pretty similar), for Sacred Harp. You pretty much need to be able to sing more loudly than well (what with the style of singing and all).

I know Stanford hosts a public Gregorian Schola, as well as at least one other church in the Bay Area (St. John's Oratory up in the city).

Even though I'm a complete n00b, most groups out there seem friendly enough towards inexperienced newcomers.

Like search engines? I just typed in "sacred harp bay area", and I happen to know by word of mouth where the Schola groups are.
