..at least really disappointing, and probably not a good movie. Heath Ledger is really good in it, but there isn't that much of him, and it feels like they held back on his craziness. On the other hand I agree that the Batman as neoconservative/bush thing was pretty strong (sometimes we need to wiretap for the people's good! etc), but that is often unavoidable in these movies. Actually I kind of liked it.

as far as batman being like george bush . . . i think the dark knight in large about about modern anxiety. i don't know what you call it, post-post-9/11 anxiety, maybe post-waterboarding anxiety? i don't think it's some kind of defense of neoconservatism. the movie doesn't really present batman as a hero. i'm not sure you really identify with him any more than the joker. harvey dent is the only kind-of-hero character in the movie, and look what happens to him. i don't think it's a movie about solutions, but about how awful everything is, and the cathartic thrill of watching society fall apart on the screen despite regular peoples' (on the boats) innate goodness. everything is so awful, even batman is kind of bad.
but i mean regardless it was fucking awesome. i thought batman begins was pretty overrated, but but he totally redeemed himself with this movie.
