Lily White

In a corner of a garden where sun is not so bright
Flowers there are blooming, but not so Lily White

Lilly of the Valley beloved near and far,
Sent with wish and wonder and wishes from a star
City streets and alleys hold secrets from us all
Lily of the Valley, the most secret one of all

We whisper and we wonder from whence the petals came
Drifting, silent, on the wind, gossamer as rain.
Filled with hope and wonder many pilgrims travel by
Scent of summer dreaming leaving travelers to sigh

In a corner of a garden where sun is not so bright
Flowers there are blooming, but not so Lily White

Sisters of the many and brothers of the few
Walked among the people, leading lives anew
Prosper in the morning, sharing in the spring
Beware the coming Autumn, when Lilies rarely sing.

Children learned the old tales and some not heard before
Lilies still were blooming as white as e’er before
But morning came more slowly and night tarried long
Soon few would remember the Lily’s morning song

In a corner of a garden where sun is not so bright
Flowers there are blooming, but not so Lily White

Some queens have need of gardens, and yet some kings have not
They find much better uses for a thriving garden plot
No gardeners are needed, so send them all away
We’ll send folk out for Lilies if we need some other day.

If no one is planting or tending green and white
If no one is mending will the broken be set right?
The gardeners found valleys-some near, some far away-
But Lily of the Valley will not see the light of day

In a corner of a garden where sun is not so bright
Flowers there are blooming, but not so Lily White
