They had our local area's stats in the local paper. The top category (Catholic - about 28% from memory) didn't surprise me, but the next one (No Religion - about 24%) did. I was seriously expecting Islam to come in next, but it was actually second last (about 7%), just above the Anglicans (about 6%).

To be honest with you, I don't think people are necessarily turning away from religion any more than usual - I do think there are a larger group who are comfortable putting "no religion" whereas previously they would have identified with their tribal grouping.

Mind you, I'd like to know how many people put "Collingwood" as their religion - if they were being truly honest, that is...
