Help?

So I have this idea for a Discworld story. It takes place some time after the events in Monstrous Regiment (please tell me I'm not the only one who's read this). The set-up is that our hero, Pete Wentz, has enlisted in a military regiment consisting of several other unsavory characters, led by Sgt. Polly Perks. The problem is this: I suck at plot. Two thoughts:

Firstly, Pete! On the Disc! In Ankh-Morpork! Clearly whatever small country Polly's from (I haven't read Monsterous Regiment in a while, so bear with me here) is opening trade links with the wider world. Clearly it's forming new alliances with far-off places. Clearly the inclusive, progressive, led-by-a-girl regiment would have to spend some time on the diplomatic bandwagon, being paraded in front of foreign dignitaries and shaking hands in front of cameras. They'd be in A-M, all confused and lost! Pete and Foul Old Ron would bond over dogs! Clearly they would have to meet the Watch at some point and...and possibly there's a riot or something, and Vimes doesn't trust Pete as far as he could throw him, and I don't really have a plot for you here, just a lot of unhelpful exclamation marks.

Secondly, Pete! In a fucking forest. Because maybe he signed up when they were en route to a campaign somewhere because he saw it as a quick way to get from A to B and get paid, always planning to desert once they got to wherever it ( ... )

Have I mentioned that I love you?

My ideas for secondary characters have included the following:
-Amanda Palmer, joining the army disguised as a boy--not because girls aren't allowed, but because she doesn't want to wear a skirt anymore.
-Davey Havok, a vampire. He and Pete would start out hating each other, but then something would happen (perhaps your werewolf attack) and one of them would save the other's life and they'd develop a grudging respect for one another, which would evolve into...slash.
-Jon Walker. Uh...not sure what I wanna do with him. I just know I want him in there somewhere.

Anyway! Yes. I will probably include at least a few of your ideas, 'cos I like them. Thanks very much.

Amanda Palmer? Seriously? I love you right back.

There is no plot which cannot be improved by the inclusion of Jon Walker. None.

Yeah, I got tired of not having significant female characters in any of my stories. Even if they are all gay with a side of queer, sometimes you just need a little estrogen.
