I crave the comfort of anonymity. The internet used to be a place for me to tell all my secrets to strangers who knew everything and nothing about me all at once. Now I feel like there is too much of me out there

It's so hard to keep it seperate. I try to not bring up fannish things on facebook and twitter. My LJ is the home for those things although some of my lj friends know me in real life too. But they know me from fandom first which is the difference I guess.
I hope it all works out so you can have that again.
Thanks... It's funny, I don't worry that I'm going to insult somebody online, even the fandom friends that have become real friends. I'm more concern with writing about how I feel about something. Like, if I'm cranky and want to whine, or if something is upsetting me. With work and all of my coworkers reading things like my twitter, I'm so afraid that I'm going to say something that a boss is going to see or that somebody will comment on during a review...
I know what you mean...although I'm okay with having my name out there, and I've always been conscious of who might see what I'm posting, it's only in the past couple of years that I've started having real concerns about keeping online and offline identities separate.

OMG so nice. As much as I love twitter and facebook, I kinda wish they had never gotten as big as they have. I like my little online world, with my online friends.
I totally hear what you're saying (even though it's been a few years since then, and therefore that much more integrated now).
I had to go around and clean up my google results because it didn't matter back then if I used my real name for some things, or if my pseudonyms tracked back... now I'm just hoping that nobody bothers to look XD
