001 - Of course this is still Oklahoma//Video

[When the camera first switches on, it seems as though the person controlling it can't decide where he wants it focused. It's in constant movement, being turned from wall to bare wall of a cabin while someone swears in fascination. Clearly the person in charge hasn't seen a video camera before ( Read more... )

[Have THIS! Sitting next to a stack of books at an otherwise boring desk.]

You're not in a state prison. I daresay you're no longer in your own world. Welcome to the Barge, sir. I'm the Doctor; I'll be happy to answer what questions you've got, and perhaps attempt to explain, if you'd like.

[There's a relatively long pause, his eyebrows knit together, and his jaw goes slack. This is his confused face. Take note, Five, because it's going to be his default expression during this conversation.]

Okay, hold up, Doc. What the hell do you mean I ain't in my own world? What--is this some loony bin at sea or somethin'?

There's no sea to be had, either. Not the sort you'd expect on Earth, at least- if by Tulsa you mean a city in the United States, then I'll assume you're from Earth. You're currently travelling beyond the bounds of time and space- and, arguably, reality.

[Small smile, oddly reassuring at that, if reassurance is needed, and a headtilt.]

We could have a great roundabout debate on the concept of 'loony', if you'd like, but why don't you have a look round before we do? We're indeed on a ship- perhaps you'd like to find a deck and see for yourself. You might only consider yourself mad for it, but it would well adjust you to the rest of what you'll need to know here.

[Pause. Suspicious side-eye.] Stay there, Doc. I still wanna talk to you in a minute.

[Without cutting the feed, he snatches up his jacket from the bed and just leaves, slamming the door a little too loudly behind him. About five minutes later, the door swings open again, and in scrambles Dally, wide-eyed and a little out of breath.]

Glory...if that ain't somethin'...Either I got knocked on the head pretty hard and I'm dreamin' all of this, or that is really out there right now. Got anything else to say that'll help make any sense out of this, man?

[Directly after the fifth's comment.] What he said. Technically what I said. Because he's me. It's complicated. But yes, he's telling the truth.

Don't even try to mess with me, man. He don't look nothin' like you.

Like I said. It's complicated. And it's all a bit much to take in at once. I'd prefer you saw the deck before I explained.

After taking a good long ganger up on the deck. failed_bluff November 9 2010, 07:33:21 UTC
Okay...okay, I believe you 'bout the deck now. I just don't--how is any of this possible, man?

[Laughs.] Yeah, pretty nice for a prison. A space prison, mind you.

[Snorrrt.] Sounds like they misplaced you, man. I'm thinkin' you belong in the loony bin if you think anyone can survive in space.

[More laughter.] Everyone thinks that, man. Maybe you're right. Maybe it's the meds. But you should go up on deck and have a look. It's like an ocean of stars.

[He sounds a little breathless, like he just run back to his room from the deck. He obviously didn't think the camera was capable of travel.] You weren't lyin', man.

..I can't believe you weren't lyin'.

Heh, the prison itself's pretty liberal, but. Enjoy the peaceful moments, son, lemme just say that.

Wouldn't be too good of a prison if there weren't a little static here and there.

True enough, but depends on the kind, really. You've seen the deck. We ain't got the usual view, nor the usual, ah, 'static'.
