As some of you will be aware, I've been saying for some time now that I'm going to build myself an octave mandola (it's kind of like a big mandolin). Well, I've finally started...
This lump of wood will one day be the neck.
Not a broken heart, but in fact the beginnings of a soundboard...
This is where the two bits of soundboard will end up -- my improvised gluing jig thingy. In case it isn't obvious you are looking at the halves of the back, on a board, being held together with wooden battens and my yoga-strap. The torn up envelope is to prevent glue squeezed out of the join sticking the battens to the back.
Once the glue has set. You can see the envelope has done its job.
And a few minutes of scraping and sanding gives the completed back.
...to be continued.
