Like The Librarians
There are few tropes I hate as much as 'I pretended to betray you but it was totes for your own good/the greater good/both'. Especially if they also try to fool the viewers/readers into thinking the character is a traitor. And especially if it's just obvious that they aren't. And let's face it: The Librarians is a cheerful feel-good show that had an episode about Santa and not some conspiracy thriller. They're not going to have a character go to the dark side.
And it made no sense in the first place why they needed the others to believe that Eve was a traitor. I get that Flynn did not want the others to know that he intended to sacrifice himself but why did Eve's thought process go 'I have a plan. It requires The Librarians to do a specific thing to work. The best thing is obviously to leave them in the dark about my plan and hope that this will result in them doing the exact thing I need them to do. There is absolutely no flaw in this plan!'
It's just so lazy writing...and so unnecessary because the question 'Will Flynn survive?' actually had me worried. I thought he would probably make it but I wasn't sure.
And while we're at it:
Didn't we spend two seasons on talking about how Cassandra's tumor is inoperable and fatal? And suddenly it's operable but the operation is just really dangerous and that's why she's been putting it off?
And
Didn't Cassandra talk to Eve about how she can't control he 'enhanced' gift? And then she decides to not to use it? Because that's apparently something she can control?
None of this makes sense. And it's a shame because otherwise the season was fun as always. (And hey...we had a villain of male entitlement that did not get redemption...though the fact that it was Sam was slightly traumatising). But these are some major things I can't just overlook.
Or Endeavour
TBH I still don't quite get the Joan-storyline. I mean I get the 'what happened last season was traumatising and I need some distance'-part. I just don't get why it also includes 'I can't even write my parents a postcard to tell them I'm OK'. Tbh before the last episode, I had been subscribing to the 'she's pregnant and feeling ashamed' theory but that's obviously not the case.
The only thing that would make sense is that she's worried that her parents would refuse to let her have the space she needs. But tbh Thursday does not strike me as the kind of guy who goes 'oh! I got a postcard from my daughter where she asks me to leave her alone! Clearly, that means I will now find out where this card came from, hunt her down and drag her home!'. (And if that was her concern she...could have said something to Morse along the lines of 'I need peace and quiet and I don't think my parents would get that' instead of 'I won't talk to them'). At the moment it looks like the only reason for Joan's behaviour is that the writers went 'I know what this show needs! More drama and tragedy!'. And I would liked to have a reason beyond that. Even if it was one that looked stupid.
Which is a lot of ranting for a show I'm really loving so far *pats Bright and Trelove* PLEASE BE FINE FOREVER AND EVER.
Yeah. I'm not overly emotionally invested in fictional characters at all.
