Geez, I'm sorry you were pushed to do that. It's rare to see someone commit to protecting the ones they love so steadfastly. I think you're on an admirable path myself.
I lost my 17 year old brother in law to drunk driving. He was the driver. I can understand your distress at the loss of friends. I understand your wish to help/save them.
The trouble is, my desire to get people to not kill themselves resolves itself if I take away their car keys. They may be hung over in the morning but alive. They may still drink to excess, but I can prevent disaster by one act. Your friends will die not after the activities of one evening but after decades of behavior. It's as bad as insisting an overweight friend go easier on his heart. We can want to help, we can be really angry at the result, but some behaviors are beyond our ability to control for them.
you go right on feeling that way, it's an addiction, it kills people, all anyone needs is the right motivation to quit. Mine was and is phillyvixen . I quit before I met her, but she's the reason I don't fall of the wagon......
