As for putting a Portaloo on the Inn Pinn, well it's clearly necessary. Just look at the queueueueue that's formed!

Most of the people who get rescued by MRT do donate something and those that have more available cash tend to donate more than it would have cost MRT to rescue them - if MRT costed it that is..
SAR helicopters are funded by the military as their primary role is military.
I daresay some sort of insurance might be made available...
You can get it for some countries.
Mind you, Angus seems to think you should have a licence to walk if you are away from a road or a pavement. Not worth reading the urw thread unless you are bored or want a fit of the giggles.

Surely no one who has ever managed the Inn Pinn has ever really needed to ask the question. The answer was provided by Sir Edmund Hillary (IIRC) many years ago. "Because it's there".
