Mooching round the Approved Food website earlier as I wanted to place an order, I spotted an
interesting offer. Not taken them up on it as I've neither the 100ZU nor the inclination to have 1080 botlles of Soy Sauce knocking around the place. I did boggle a bit as it was marked as "selling fast" - Dan's pretty good with website info and it seems to

I've got some Chinese mushroom-and-soy sauce in the cupboard which is, in theory, ten years 'out-of-date', but it's still OK. I use a dash of it now and then, and it's the same every time.
BTW, the link isn't clickable - looking at the source, it's got 'http://' twice at the front.

Wouldn't surprise for stuff still in date. SWWTM has oft said that if she had a reliable conduit she'd buy 'in date but close' stuff off them - she has bought personally I know as they deliver to Estonia and she has a tame fishmonger who will carry boxen for a few ZU (or rather Euro) - I was always amused (as was SWWTM) when Estonia had it's own currency and had the symbol, the EEK.

'Best Before' is just that - manufacturers analysis as to when it'll be best until. I'm using some MOD marmalade still (it comes in tins) that has a BB date in 2000 and it's still perfectly good.

Getting it there in a 'standard' way must be quite a problem, I'd imagine; small consignments, plus the bureaucracy involved, must make delivery pretty slow.

Eek! Somewhere at the back of my mind, I recollect hearing some other unfortunate abbreviations; one which I do remember was a TLA (coined by an organisation based in England) for the Welsh county of Clwyd, that apparently meant something quite unrepeatable in Welsh. It was fairly quickly changed.

A properly preserved preserve, indeed :-)
I have some onion chutney, recently found in the back of a cupboard, that has a 2001 BB date, and is still perfectly edible.
LJ has changed how it deals with links (again). They also appear to have introduced a temporary 'nofollow' ( ... )

I know she's done some personal purchases (and a few of her staff tag on to the order) and it goes to Estonia then makes its way to her for distribution via the Estonian fishmonger she knows.
SWWTM has muttered in the past about trying to get business orders through from Russia, Moldova etc. so I don't think it's entirely straightforward even if you can get delivery.

Heard of this one 3rd or 4th hand. Not yet tracked it down. It is believable ( ... )
