It's a big country :)
Quite how big I hadn't really realised until 娟 was flying back from Urumqi to Changsha and it was a 5h 40m flight plus a 1h stopover in Xi'an - and Xi'an is almost on a direct route between the two.
Here's a comparative map -

Changsha is the arrow near the middle
She went out by sleeper train as there were three others going out as well to help with setting up the new office - a smidgen over 24 hours on a high speed train! She came back on her own so flying much safer.
I gather that very few people watch the speeches but lots tune in to see all the performances as they're always pretty spectacular. Usually shown on CCTV 1.
I haven't had a WWP for over ten years nowI've the two I won in competitions but nary an aerial in sight. I was going to sell one but the 40" in the bedroom is hooked up to a DVD player with a dangling HDMI lead for the flaptop, 50" in the lounge with blu-ray player ( ... )

Good grief! The cross-USA flights (JFK-LAX) which I took in the '80s were quicker than that!
That certainly puts it in perspective. I didn't realise quite how wide China was.
http://wwitv.com/ is your friend :)
If that's live, I'd still need a licence, but I can no doubt find the programme on catch-up somewhere, which ATM is still licence-free until the greedy hooters change the law as they've threatened to do...
Just hope there isn't a major news event that takes precedence
Likewise; I hope you are able to view the show without interruption.

Well you do have to factor in congested airways, holding in a landing pattern and landing /take off speeds.
I flew China Southern last time to Shanghai via KLM to Amsterdam thence to Changsha - via Nanjing - so two sides of a triangle. Hehe, I got the giggles when hfring the China Telecom SIM to say I was at Pu Dong airport in China - Pu Dong is pronounced "pee dung" :) Flew back China Eastern to Beijing then Air WOCAB via Paris - most supercilious flight attendants I've ever come across on the long haul bit.
The flight out was great, a gaijin (foreigner) who speaks a bit of Chinese gets lots of attention, even got asked for a date if I was staying in Shanghai - much to the annoyance of the youngish Chinese bloke in the next seat.It seems Chinese girls are fascinated by westerners who can hold even a basic conversation in their language. Beards also seem to fascinate them as well for some reason.
