Food journal

I'm going to attempt to start keeping a (paper) food journal, despite a couple of things:

a) I, like many people, have a difficult time starting anything new and keeping up with it. Especially, of course, in regards to food and/or exercise.

Have you read any of Michael Pollan's books? He advocates eating things that "someone's great-great-grandmother would have recognized as food." The basic idea is to get away from industrial food: Anything super-processed or containing unnatural products like high-fructose corn syrup. It is all very reasonable.

It's too bad you don't live closer to work -- I've discovered that commuting by bicycle is by far the easiest and most pleasant form of exercise I've encountered. It doesn't feel pointless!

I haven't read any of them, but I know the general idea. I've been trying to cut out as much HFCS, for example, as I possibly can--it's in freaking everything! But in general, I try to eat as little processed stuff as I can--except when I am tempted by fast food--and I've been doing a lot more label checking when I go to the grocery store. I've also discovered a locally owned natural food grocery store near where I live. While it's certainly not perfect, they have better choices along with, of course, the unfortunate downside of being more expensive (though on rare occasion cheaper, interestingly enough). [Speaking of real food, the farmer's market starts on Saturday around here. Woo!]

It would be nice to be able to bike to work. Sadly, unless I lived in the city, with a job in the city, it would be really hard to do in this area. And I'm not that much of a hardcore biker, like a few people I know in this area.
