So I'm applying for a passport; I went and did my paperwork, gave them my very old stamped birth certificate which they immediately stapled, and wrote my checks. Last week I got a packet from the Department of State saying additional information was needed to process my application. Nobody else I know has had this happen and I can't help but think ( Read more... )

God. I would suck at providing all this information.

I wonder the same as someone else - did you provide a notice of the court order of your name change? Is your driver's license/California ID less than six months old?

This should help you with the ID thing: http://www.rushmypassport.com/id_proof.html

And here's somebody who have had similar difficulty:

You might try contacting your congressperson if you're having a lot of trouble, they can sometimes help.

Nope! And I don't have Robot as my last name on the passport (not finalized yet). I think it's just from having a funny name. My mom's going to work on getting addresses and if that's not good enough I'll try congresswoman Barbara Lee (I'm really going to miss having her as my rep).

Holy crap. I don't even have five pieces of identification, going by that list. And, WTF, where you were baptized?

I'm worried that not being baptized is going to be some kind of black mark. This is so much more stressful than I thought it would be.

THE UNITED STATES OF AMURRICA IS A CHRISTIAN NATION. EVERYONE MUST BE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF GOD. OTHERWISE YOU'RE BOTH A SATANIST AND A TERRORIST.

Wow, that's pretty insane. Mine was super easy. Perhaps if you had done it earlier in life? Maybe they make it easier for kids (I did it at like 16.)

Hi, I'm a follower of your benchilada.(Congrats BTW). Just wanted to comment that they put me through the same thing when I went to get my passport renewed earlier this year. In my case it was because I was going back to my maiden name and had IDs in both names. I had to give them ridiculous amounts of information. It was crazy. I was just waiting for the DNA sample. And even after I sent everything in they still wanted more. In my case I got lucky, someone in the civil passport office (they're a private company hired by the gov't to help process the passports) worked with me individually, gave me her direct number and helped me out tons.

Good luck... I hope things went okay with this, as it's been a few weeks now since you posted this. And Merry Christmas, hope you have fun bentimes. :)
