How about Carrabba's or East Side Mario's or Papa Vino's? Italian is usually a good compromise when some are vegetarians and others aren't too adventerous. There was a really good Italian place in Troy that Chris and I went to for our anniversary a few years ago, but I'd have to look up the name. I would say Mexican, Middle Eastern or Thai, but if Shawn's stepdad is going he's probably not down with that stuff.

lucky for me, my mom is adventurous she loves all types of food. my original idea was for a girls night out but then shawn didn't want to miss out on his own moms birthday. so we thought about including the guys, him, my step-dad (very bad idea) and his step-dad (sorta bad idea)and the extra cost of tickets. So instead we thought about having a big dinner with all of us and the girls go see the DSO afterward without rude Ahole or Mr lions flea market man.

If you're going to the DSO, check your program for the "free dessert at the whitney" coupon. We've been running the free dessert promotion for a month or so, and it's completely free, no buying dinner (which is stupid expensive) or anything. The free dessert is a slice of opera cake, which is 6 thin layers each of vanilla/almond cake, coffe buttercream and chocolate ganache. We're usually open after the DSO, depending on how late the show is you're going to see and what day it is. I know free dessert isn't necessarily worth the extra effort, but I'm sure the moms will love touring the Whitney! Just tell the host you want to look around, they always encourage people to explore the mansion.

I'm sure you guys will find the perfect plan for entertaining the birthday moms. :)

I most certainly will check into that!! my mom loves the Whitney, I love cake, and have always wanted to go to the Whitney and I know Shawn's mom would fall in love with the old charm, she loves antiques. Thanks for the heads up :) we are going on a saturday and the dso starts at 8:30, I will keep my fingers crossed.

There's lots of good places downtown, Small Plates, Vicente's, Tom's Oyster Bar and Atlas Global Bistro. Tom's is the most reasonable $$ wise and fresh fish daily, downtown is as good as RO without the yuppies.

I was thinking about Tom's but I didn't know how good they where, but if they get fresh fish daily, much better then red lobster :)
Thanks for the info, I'll look up some menus and see what shawn thinks about them too.

I was going to suggest the same...Small Plates or Twingo's on Cass near WSU.
