Sheryl shouldered her bag, frowning as she looked over the top of a short lady to the front of the very long line. It would be at least thirty minutes until she made it to the check out counter. Ten minutes more, if that woman fumbling with her wallet at the counter was any indication. Sheryl's patience was wearing thin, and about five minutes ago, she'd started to tap her stiletto-heeled foot against the tiled floor of the transport center. The hum of machinery, the chatter of people, and the terrible elevator music funneling from the loud speakers grated on Sheryl's tender ears.
This is ridiculous! I am Sheryl Nome. SHERYL NOME! I shouldn't have to wait in line so long because an old lady can't count her change. Sheryl made a frustrated sound that appeared to disturb the lady in front of her. She turned her old, near-blind eyes to The Galactic Fairy, scowling in a way that reminded Sheryl of the old expression, 'sour crab apple'. Now that she thought of it...the woman's face did look a lot like an apple gone bad...
