I am horrendously late in responding to this, which I deeply apologize for. I stopped reading other peoples' livejournals in general a while ago unless they're an author I'm trying to keep up with, and even then my check-ins are few and far-between.
As far as the worries over Dexter, the concerns you express are indeed very viable. On the other hand, my memories of Psych class in high school tell me that a huge percentage (almost all, I think) of serial killers fit the rather specific profile for antisocial personality disorder, which begins manifesting at a ridiculously early age (torture of small animals, pyromania, a total lack of remorse and no sense of other people as separate, distinct beings with their own thoughts and feelings, etc.). By the time they're old enough to watch Dexter, their habits are already well in in place, and I can't help but think that anybody 'inspired' by Dexter would have found their 'inspiration' somewhere else if the show had never aired.
