For those of you unfamilar w/ costs of mandatory school supplies/fees here..it can run upwards to $150. Tack on another $50 if your child needs a new backpack. So because the start of school coincides w/ DragonCon I like to start early. Let see.... from what I remember about high school Supplies, there were pencils (or pens if your Asja and don't like the sound of lead on paper), A five star note book for each subject. Maybe one of those binders to keep it in. Backpack was nice but that went way when somehow I ripped a big whole in it. But then I was ruff on backpacks. What else?... Ah, make sure the notebooks have folder room for handouts.

Whatever required reading book... ah,depending on the math some math supplies and on the science some lab supplies....

Yup that's all I can think of and now that I look at it wasn't helpful at all... Man that sucks them not having a list.

There is alot more to supplies than just pencils/paper.

I have to buy what the Montgomery county can't afford to buy for the teachers such as:

soap (the no water kind), paper towels (8 rolls), 2 reems of paper (at $10/reem), baby wipes (3-4 of them at $3 a pop), ziploc bags, kleenex (3-4 boxes)....Oh, side note, and if he has field trips that use the school buses we have to pay for the gas for the school bus.

Then for my actual child- a 4in binder plus about 5- 2in binders, countless folders and we will go thru about 6-8 project boards in a school yr (cost about $8 a board). So that is why I always sweat the first week of school. Plus as you said countless lab, music, locker, gym fees. Ahh, the smell of school starting back at Office Depot...

Baby wipes?!

Two things: Big Lots = cheap, and If you didn't know Tax free shopping Holiday on Aug. 4-6. (Of course this means you'll have to fight the crowds who also know about it)
