There is so much unnecessary negativity in the world. I had a glaring example of it this morning when a guy flicked cigarette ash on my car after I stopped for him in a crosswalk then flipped me off when I beeped my horn at him. People got this way because they were treated this way.

Happy people are difficult to control. They go off and dance or love or create. It's very unproductive and they might not listen to their "betters".

But then I'm a deeply cynical person who is a curmudgeonly misanthrope, as you know. ^_^

IIRC there's research that shows that people, on average, are more hostile and trust others less when economic conditions are harder. It can feed itself in a cycle.
