A Modest Proposal

Unless you've been living in a cave for the last few decades, you know that America is divided on many hot-button issues.  Same-sex marriage, abortion, the war on terror, and most recently, health care.  And while I give my beloved country credit for acknowledging these issues, it is hard to ignore the inefficient way in which they are discussed.

A great idea! And I for one will be delighted to find a place where one can read a variety of points-of-view, opinions, and well-reasoned arguments.

I'm...cautiously optimistic. /Al Gore ;) No, I'm excited. I'll definitely play along, and I hope it becomes a success. My only concern - and please, please, don't take this at all the wrong way - is that even with your super ground rules, people will get silly and rude. Especially because interpreting tone on the internet is tricky, and when people are on opposing sides it's easy (and convenient) to read snark where there's none. But I definitely want to participate, and I hope others do too!

It's a totally valid concern, and please don't hesitate to bring concerns up. I've planned this out to a degree, but I need all the feedback I can get. I guess I'm just putting faith in myself and my friends to think a second time so that they can respond logically instead of emotionally.

In any case, I'm thrilled you'll be joining in my dear :)

That's why I outlined the rules that I did, in hopes that we can all be grown ups about this and not attack each other personally. I'm sure we will all grant you the same respect we ask in return for our different ideas.
