(Translator's note: This is a play on 'Naruhodo Naruhodo Za World' which is a segment on ItteQ. 'Naruhodo naruhodo' is of course, Tegoshi's pet phrase on ItteQ, meaning 'Oh I see!')
Tegoshi Yuya on the popular variety show Sekai no Hate Made ItteQ! (NTV). We infiltrate the studio, where the recording (already broadcast) takes place with an audience in a homely atmosphere. We also find out about the latest back stories about the location shoots.
When I'm watching the monitor, I'm just a viewer (laugh)
After I started appearing in this show, when I'm asked "You're Tegoshi-kun?" by people on the street, 90 percent of them say that "I watch ItteQ!". Many of them are guys, and because this is a show watched by people ranging from dads and mums to their kids, I'm really happy. I don't really watch TV shows other than those related to soccer. But ItteQ is really interesting so I record it and watch it again! Everyone's interesting, but I personally like Mori San Chuu-san's thrill ride series and hot spring club, and (Miyagawa) Daisuke-san's festival shoots. I look forward to every studio recording, and when I'm watching the monitor, I'm just a viewer (laugh). For me, I usually go on shoots that involve more physical activity, but in the future I could also go on shoots involving things that I don't like so much, like thrill rides and bugs and reptiles. Uchimura-san is always taking care of me. Like chatting in the dressing room and exchanging mails. I also go for meals with Daisuke-san, we really get along. When we go on shoots together, even when the camera's not filming us we're having fun together. From these 2 seniors in the entertainment industry, there is much to learn, and that's really fun.
NewS' concert tour has been decided, but I've forgotten a bit the feeling of being in NewS... (laugh). But everyone's back from where they were active on their own, and this is where Massu and I have a relationship that is not Tegomasu. Because NewS has not performed together for some time, I definitely think there'll be an excited feeling, like primary school children taking a train they don't usually take. And, because I've forgotten all the dance steps, I'll have to start from recalling them (laugh). Massu's memory is good, he always remembers them. Ryo-kun and I are the ones who have forgotten the most! But Ryo-kun has Eito dance steps to remember too (laugh). So, if I don't put my heart into it, it'll be a little dangerous. The fans will be looking forward to the shows, especially since they've waited for so long, so we can't give them something mediocre. I'll work hard!
Picture captions, starting from left
Right before the actual recording, doing a final check on his outfit while waiting to be called into the studio.
The script is simple and only explains the proceedings. The talk among the guests while watching the VTRs is all impromptu.
The members enter the studio when their names are called, to loud cheers from the audience. Miyagawa-san talks to kids sitting in the front row, and Tegoshi unconsciously grins at the sight.
When Uchimura-san acts out a funny story, Tegoshi laughs till his face is all wrinkled up. When something hits his funny spot, he shows his habit (?) of slapping his left thigh with his left hand.
During the talk parts, Tegoshi is constantly moving his head and body around to face the speakers. Nodding and clapping, he reacts to the conversations. Nice reaction!
When he finds out that Mori San Chuu went to Gold Coast for their shoot he said "That's nice~" under his breath, and when the thrill rides appeared on screen he said "That's impossible~" with a frown on his face. He treated us to a feast of his 100 different expressions!
When a crocodile is shown on screen he says "That's scary!" And when Degawa Tetsuro-san appears in a surprise VTR, he laughs like he's really amused.
His wish is "I want to beat Daisuke-san in a festival". He's also waiting for the next shoot with the ItteQ Men's Team.
While listening to Murakami Tomoko talk about her short arms, he immediately starts to estimate the length of his arm with his handspan.
Tegoshi-kun will be in the next calendar project
10 October on-air (expected)
He will challenge Switzerland's Verzasca Dam 220m-high bungee jump!
I have a fear of heights. I was so scared that 3-4 days before the shoot I had dreams (laugh). Everytime I look out of the window of my apartment, I will think 'I can't even jump out from here~' (laugh). Even when the plane was landing, I was imagining what it's like to be 220m above ground. I haven't gone on a shoot by myself for a very long time; if Daisuke-san or Uchimura-san were around I could go 'yosha! I won't lose!' and jump off, but my mental state when I'm alone... because I'm the type to be able to do it when there's competition (laugh). On the day itself, I had good images in my head, but I couldn't do the jump soon after reaching the dam, because time was needed to set up the camera etc, and during the waiting time I got somewhat scared, that was tough (resigned smile). To know what happened in the end, pls watch it when it airs!
The NewS members from Tegoshi-kun's perspective?
Ryo-kun is great for being able to be in 2 groups. I realised this after Tegomasu really became active. I had to do things like recording for NewS soon after a Tegomasu live, without the time to let my throat rest. Ryo-kun has been doing this since Kanjani8 debuted. He acts in dramas and movies too, and still goes out to have fun. "I'm going to the beach~!" he says (laugh).
Yamashita-kun has a strong sense of professionalism towards his work. When Sakura Girl was being released, I said to the dance teacher, "Pls work us hard!", and it seems Yamashita-kun said the same thing. He's strict, and when I see him saying to the members "Let's make it perfect," I'm really happy.
The time I spend with Massu is long. What we don't like to be made to do, we don't need to say it in words, about singing and about each other's personality, we know it without having to say it out loud (laugh).
Kei-chan is a gentle person. He has the charm to become friendly with anyone, and he's complete as a person. He can handle anybody and any situation. I'm the complete opposite, so I can't imagine being able to do this.
Shige's mind works really quickly. He gives off a different vibe. Although we're the same age, I feel an age gap that is even more stark than when I talk to people in their 30s and 40s (laugh). He's got many interests like pickling prunes, and about saba, just what is he aiming to become... we just don't think alike (laugh)! But, I think it is precisely because it comprises people with different sensibilities, that's why NewS is interesting.
