Scan and translation of the latest TV Pia NEWS Color Pallet featuring Tegoshi on the set of Dekawanko, in which Tegoshi gets belligerent, fumbles with his tie, turns on the charm at an unsuspecting veteran co-star, and talks about what he thinks the NEWS members would be if they were police detectives and dogs (?!).

#19 'Naruhodo Naruhodo'!? Direct from the investigation scene!
(Translator's note: 'Naruhodo naruhodo' is Tegoshi's pet phrase on ItteQ, meaning 'Oh I see!')

Tegoshi Yuya plays Detective Kirishima Ryuta in the new drama Dekawanko, starting on 15 January (NTV, Saturdays, 9pm). We infiltrate the shooting for episode 2, and report on the results of our investigation of both the intense on-shots and cute off-shots!

Picture captions, from top to bottom
(in purple speech bubble) There's no alibi either.

This shoot took place in a factory in the city. Ichiko (Tabe Mikako), Kirishima and Wada (Ishizuka Hidehiko) went to the suspect's place for an investigation. The intense expression on Kirishima's face when he is stopped from getting into a fight by Wada.

When Ichiko gets involved, the scene becomes both serious and comical, an exquisite mix. Kirishima does not trust Ichiko's ability.

Kirishima's nickname is Kiri. Even the director calls him "Kiri!". His character is passionate and unsmiling.

Kirishima shows scant regard for Ichiko. His 'proud mode' is in full throttle.

Although his outfit mainly black and simple, he carries it off well. As expected ♥

He conjures up the air of being a detective by the way he wears his suit roughly and the way he walks.

Tegoshi-kun who looks amused by Ishizuka-san's funny movements and the way he says his lines.

(in purple speech bubble) Mufufu

As if he's really enjoying his shoot, he keeps breaking into his finest smiles in between takes.

(in bold orange font) He smiles while chatting with his experienced senior.

While waiting for the sets to be ready, he chats with Ishizuka-san. With his 'senior-killer' smile. After the shoot, he says "thank you!" in a refreshing manner as he bows to residents who had allowed their homes to be used in the shoot.

(Box insert at left) Rarely seen. Tegoshi in a necktie.
The rehearsal has ended, and this should be the time to put on the necktie coolly for the actual shoot... but Tegoshi realises he got the front and back of his tie reversed and smiles in embarassment.

A re?

It's the back (laugh)

He re-groups, and challenges his necktie again while looking into the mirror. He doesn't seem used to it and has to work really hard at tying it, but he completes the slightly-loose Kirishima-style tie~. Maybe he should be the one to get arrested, for committing the crime of making everyone's heart beat fast over just a necktie?!

Kiri's personality is similar to mine, so I understand how he feels
I play Kiri, and I was really looking forward to playing a character whose personality is similar to mine. If I had to pick a side, I am also the type to act first before I think, so I understand how he feels. Because I'm not the type to analyse things calmly first before I act. Kiri hates to lose and takes pride in his work, so when Wanko appears in a frilly dress, it's not surprising that he's offended (laugh). Wanko has a sharp nose, and so do I, although it gets inflamed (laugh). It's a little impolite, but when I see food or other stuff I've never seen before I will smell it first (laugh). There are many veteran actors on set, and I am learning new things from them every day! It's cold, but being in police battle scenes warms me up. Like the gun battle in the first episode, being able to do things like this is very fun. Because this is a detective drama, there are many scenes in which we chase the culprit or walk around on the streets. Working outside of a studio, in places where the sun can actually reach, is something new to me.

This time, I'm acting with dogs like Mikhail, and it's interesting. They work hard, like in scenes where they smell the corpse, or they get off the car in regal fashion. I think it's amazing. Police dogs are cool with their tough physiques. I have a papillon called Tinny, a ten-year old female, and she definitely sees me as her boyfriend (laugh). When my guy friends come to my house, she seems to know that I'm going to leave the house with them. So when they come she gets jealous, and her spirits fall, like she's saying "don't take darling away!". Recently, I got another dog, a male toy poodle called Skull. In Tinny's case, we got her when I was just in my sixth year of junior school so my parents trained her, but Skull was trained by me. I thought my parents would spoil him... well I was spoiled from young (laugh). Skull's really obedient, he's energetic but when I carry him he behaves himself; his training was perfect. Both of them are adorable, and are always a comfort to me~.

Interrogating Tegoshi-kun

If the NEWS members were detectives what nicknames would they have?

Shige is 'brainy type'. Kei-chan is the 'interrogator' (laugh). Massu is 'smile'! Ryo-kun is, 'cool-headed'? Fufu (laugh). Yamashita-kun is 'swindler'! Hahaha (laugh). Because of Kurosagi! (laugh) Although he's a detective, he's also the black swindler.

If you had to imagine the NEWS members as dogs, what would they be?

Ryo-kun is the chesapeake bay retriever. Because the face is similar (laugh). Kei-chan should be one that is slim with long legs, the dalmation! Massu is completely the cute pug! (laugh) Yamashita-kun is the golden retriever. Shige is... a brainy type... but if you're raising Shige he gives the image of being a dachshund. I'm a poodle! When I had lighter-coloured hair my hair was exactly in that style.
