A mini-break from journalling, though I have been keeping up with most of you to the best of my ability. I have just been feeling weirdly unmotivated to write much, in general. Life lately has mostly consisted of:

Cooking fine food and drinking lots of wine, day dreaming, being amused by/with my housemates, reading Sleeping Beauty and making notes ( Read more... )

Indeed it is! We watched the making-of too on Sunday night. Rather tempted to read the Patrick O'Brian books now...a wonderful creation of character.

that's funny-I rented Master and Commander Saturday (and Troy) for when the roommate was out of town, and am watching it a second time today.
I love the soundtrack, had considered buying it.
I am a huge fan of most things nautical, so I wasn't surprised that I liked it so much. It's surprisingly a good film.

Yes, the second time I saw it - I took to it better than the first. It is very realistic. You should see the making-of on the DVD extras. Any more films you know of, of a similar nature/quality, do let me know. My housemate rather adores it for the homo-erotic subtext btween Stephen & Jack, lol. The soundtrack is good indeed, very atmospheric and the folk is excellent too. I need more instrumental folk and classical music of that nature...but I have no idea where to begin! Any ideas? :)

Just to check - no hurry to reply - did you get my email reply?

How about your own mini-meadow? :)

That is a really nice idea! The thing is, the wall has fallen down and would be too labour-intensive (and rather pointless task, being a rented student property) and costly to fix and neaten. If it had a higer wall/wooden fence to cover next door's (a dry clarner's) rubbish (rusty old bomb shelter and various disused detergent cans etc) it would be a little haven. It does have potential. We have not yet decided if we are staying here, but if we do - we need to decide soon. We are short of one person to live here you see as R is moving out come July. But if we do stay, that is deifnitely a good idea. A wild meadow with a section for herbs and mini-trees. Thanks for the link, it has been bookmarked :)

Definitely good stuff for planting over a roughish, not
too large area. If you scythe it down, not too close, in
the autumn, the plants generally return the following year.
You'll just have to make a rockery out of the fallen wall ;)

Yes, I wish! If we do stay, I will consider doing something anyway. But the wall is rough in a rusty-iron-old-wooden-fence-wire-with-stone kind of way. A bit of a mix of all kinds of junk that would need ripping out and taking to a dump. That would be the hardest part, but as it is a small area, it would not be too much trouble. We wouldn't, of course, remove any fencing even if it is dead (rented property etc). I hope wherever I live next has some kind of outdoor area that I could transform into an escapism.
