Rising from the depths...

No, I haven't posted all week. This has been thanks to the fact that I have had a cold of at least twice the usual severity and have spent pretty much the entire time crawling sullenly between bed and the notorious Recliner Of Doom (so called because it attempts to cripple and/or eat anyone who sits in it apart from me) and praying to Grandfather ( Read more... )

This sounds fucking amazing, mate. You have the most metal of adventures.

"Why have you come to the North?"
"Because I am tired of the South!"

I need to get a sign like that posted somewhere on the little uncovered wall we have left. It wouldn't carry the same meaning but it's true nonetheless.

*hugs* I can see how that sign would work in America as well, definitely... <3

For me, anyway. You know how much I love my city.

Cold-catching aside, what a smashing weekend. You getting a 'Wacken' shout must have been a good omen!

I hope Týr left York thinking, 'What a great gig', because it certainly was - I'm immensely pleased at the turn-out, the reception, the atmosphere - every bit of it. Let's hope this becomes part and parcel of the Viking Week shennanigans from now on, and maybe they could even get Ravenage back...once they retrieve their keyboardist!

Oh, and you get used to Gavin casually dropping 'Oh, I've met/spoken to him/her/them' into the conversation when you're discussing musicians you admire! The git... ;) speaking of bands, do come to Paradise Lost if you would like - I'd certainly be up for it!

xx

*nod* Yeah, I definitely think an annual gig would be a great thing. And as you say, I too hope Týr went home happy! I don't think we could've tried any harder for them than we did, or they for us...

Oh, and you get used to Gavin casually dropping 'Oh, I've met/spoken to him/her/them' into the conversation when you're discussing musicians you admire!

I can imagine, heh. I'm possibly even more envious of his music collection, though - some of the items he mentioned, I would kill to own!

As for Paradise Lost - oh, what the heck, why not? Let's do it! ^_^

One minor correction I could point out...

What brings you to the North?
Because I'm tired of the South!

There you go, there's the full track, and the demo version should still be up on Ravenage's Myspack page. Also, just to fill you in, who I was buying the N64 from was Steven "The Bearer" Mills, of Old Corpse Road fame. You caught Gavin Baddeley's cold, I will be able to say, when Old Corpse Road are off on their latest World Tour in 2019, that I have Steve Mills' N64. And I'll probably still be playing something on it then... your cold will go away.

I suppose, technically, I no longer have to write my own review, because all the points of the weekend have been covered in this review and in Keri's. However, hers is friends-locked, and this one isn't. I wonder if I could post some kind of "syndicated" version?

Oops, cheers for the correction. Fixed that...

You're welcome to link my review if you want, but you should totally write your own. Apart from anything else, you'll doubtless want to say more about various bits than I did!

I will also add that, after I left your flat, I never found Bits & Pizzas, despite following your directions to the letter, or so I thought. Not to worry, I thought - in an hour I'll be hungry, I'll be somewhere near York, I'll find a chippy in Fulford that I must have passed on the Sunday morning. I didn't. I had to divert into and out of York because of roadworks on the A64, but by this stage I was actually in that bizarre experience where I was either hungry or sick, couldn't tell which one it was, and previous experience suggested it was better not to eat anything and provoke the inevitable technicolour yawn, especially as it would most likely happen on a motorway where I couldn't pull over anywhere. The drive home took three hours in total, by which time it was eleven in the evening, I was actually hungry by this point, but I was so knackered I went to bed without even firing up the computer (which is very strange). The upshot of this is, I had one semla at three in the afternoon or there abouts, and didn't have to eat again for ( ... )

Heheheh. Yeah, they do have that effect!

Though this is what makes me think that my recipe probably doesn't equate very closely to the classic Swedish version, as I've seen it reported that it's possible to eat multiple semlor in one sitting. Not with mine, it isn't...

I'm actually under impression "semla"refers more to a "salty" white bread baked as small buns, and the sweet ones would be referred as "bulle" - but if you got recipe from swedes, who I am to argue :) Finnish shrovetide buns (="laskiaispulla") are pretty much the same. In the press there's ever-ongoing-debate every year should it contain almond or jam besides the cream, which is ridiculous as I think best ones contain both!

My data source for the entire semla business is actually the liner notes from Morbid's "Year of the Goat" box set, followed by a bit of internet research, and as far as I can figure out I've got the Swedish usage correct - I'm not at all surprised if there are regional varitions of concept, though. Actually, I just found this rather adorable little article on the subject (with recipes). I don't know if it's true about the Swedish Food Administration recommending that you shouldn't have more than one semla a week, but I would totally believe it, heheh!

...and the Finnish equivalent has jam in it? OOOOH. This I may have to try also - do you have a good recipe, please? ;)

Nice. Hope Papa Nurgle took it easy on you.

Re:Battle Tactics - you mean they didn't scream "waagh" and push all of their models into a pile in the middle of the field.

Cheers. He's pretty much let me go by now, although he's turned his attentions to my housemate instead...

...and I have to say I think it's probably as well for all concerned that there weren't any Orks around in 1066! ^_^
