Love, death and mortuary sculpture.

I'd have made this post a long time ago, but when I first wanted to, there weren't any good photos online that could have served to illustrate it. Thankfully, the wonders of the internet have now changed that, so, here we go, since I've got some free time here.

A few years ago, I went to Paris with lonescorpion, and among the various other places we went ( ( Read more... )

That is beautiful, and very unusual. Put me straight in mind of my favourite poem, Remembrance.

And to think I don't even know if I'd've picked up on those subtleties if you hadn't pointed them out. Don't get me wrong, it's a stunningly beautiful scene just to look at and that much is obvious, but most of the stuff in that fifth paragraph just makes me think "man, trust Rath to pick up on those subtler nuances while they'd've probably sailed right past me!" And I mean that in a good way; part of the reason why it's awesome to be around you is you're able to spot things I often miss, and having them pointed out to me gives me the opportunity to appreciate them when I otherwise might not have had the chance.

So... thanks for sharing. <3

*Is impressed.*

And also quite surprised by the date, which a little googling tells me is mid/late 18th C. I'd always thought that sort of attiude was a very 19th C, Romantic idea. Anyway it's an idea that this society needs more of.

Oh, I don't know - while I know what you mean, the idea of love being more important than life/reason/anything goes back a hell of a long way. (Ask the Trojans...)

And I wholeheartedly agree that we need more of this sort of thing! A bit more passion and a bit less emotional straitjacketing would do the world a lot of good...
