Wacken ticky box list!

Jul 08, 2012 00:49

Right, I'm sat around waiting for hellbound_heart so it's time for the Who Do I Want To See At Wacken game! (Note, the bands in this list will probably constitute less than one-fifth of the bands I ACTUALLY see. These are just the ones I'll be actively scheduling around ( Read more... )

wacken, fun, silliness, forthcoming attractions, music, i'd rather be dancing

I'm pretty sure it was Hammerfall who were at Bloodstock last year, when I got horribly distracted by some guys playing Twister - yes Twister - just in front of me. It was like that bit in Black Books where Manny notices the Subbuteo man in the locksmith's hair...

I am, at the moment, not being very proactive in thinking about who specifically I want to see. Winterfylleth, obviously, with a Winterfylleth shirt on, obviously - Watain I have seen but in a rather ungiglike situation, so I can't wait to see them on the ground, as it were...I'd happily give Dimmu a go based on ironlord's recent Hellfest review and also for old time's sake, as I last saw them in old Bradford Rios back in about '98! Coroner - surprisingly awesome, will give them a go again...Henry Rollins, definitely...and Ministry - absolutely no fucking way! Terrible, last time I saw them arsing about and singing bad covers. But yeah, I'll sort out an itinerary closer to the time - at least I've now got a tent and a sleeping bag! And I'm massively looking forward to the roadtrip ( ... )

*nodnods*Ministry I couldn't give a damn about, so I'm kind of hoping that they'll clash with someone I love and thereby reduce my critical-clash risks by one (there is nothing worse than realising that you've got an either/or on two bands when you love both of them!) Winterfylleth are on my "want to and almost certainly will see, but not pre-declared MUST see" list. Henry Rollins, much as I respect the guy, is a definite "no" for me because the idea of listening to a spoken word show while there is THAT MUCH METAL being played in the vicinity just feels wrong...

But yeah. This is going to be awesome, seriously. ^_^

Ach, twelve bands is nothing! ;) I scored close to fifty last year and that's only counting bands who I actually watched a decent amount of their sets. You should certainly be able to get all those.

And the running order tool is a great thing but it has just told me that I'm going to miss ALL of Insomnium unless I can bear to duck out of D-A-D's set. I am very unhappy! :~(

I also have the feeling that more bands will be added to my list once I'm at Wacken. :) But so far no time overlaps...
But seeing it's my first Wacken, I'm also a little wary of biting off more than I can chew - for instance I've promised a friend to help her find a fitting piece of jewelry at the Wackinger village for a wedding we'll be attending, as well as picking up something Scorpions-related for a friend who isn't going.

Oh no! :( But isn't it better to know that three weeks in advance, so you can think about what to do, rather than finding out about it immediately before the concerts?

It seems that the only essential on the list is Winterfylleth, given that I've promised, yet again, I'll be up the front (and they may even be providing the sign-off at the end of the festival) - with a second chance to see Channel Zero lurking at the side. Other than that, I'll take what comes...

Yaksa, though - the promo blurb says they're the kind of shrieky angst-core to be run away from very fast.

I havent even looked to at the Wacken line up for this year.

Hopefully one day i'll get over to that side of the pond for a few Euro-fests... it'll probably lead to my death tho*...

*should i die in her majesty's kingdom, one of you must sever my head and throw it thru Jervis Johnson's office window at Games Workshop.

If you do come over it'd be great to see you. (And if you die before you wake, your head will end up on a stake... or something ;) )

That's Wales (or, more precisely, Anglesey), not England! Heh.
