An Unexpected Offer: Part Two
See Part One for info

Their food came soon after, the waiter safely keeping his mouth shut and disappearing discreetly to return with some extra napkins, only to disappear again silently. He would make sure the girls were not disturbed. Daatu broke the hug quietly when the food came, letting Faith have her space to eat as she blew her nose discreetly and wiped her eyes.

Faith began to eat, troubled by her thoughts. If she was right about trust, why did it feel so wrong when Daatu said it? If she liked Daatu so much, why was she still attracted to her? Because you're a cheap, trashy girl who ruins everything she touches, whispered the corner of her mind.

Daatu sighed softly and leaned her head against Faith a moment. "T-thank you for... being here. I was going to spend my night alone... kind of glad I didn’t now," she murmured, before going after her food with gusto.

"Hey...what are friends for," Faith croaked, hating herself for the way her body reacted to Daatu's warmth against her, and the way her brain reacted with the suggestion that she make sure Daatu continue to not be alone all night.

Daatu smiled softly and scooted back to her own space, sensing some of the... tension between them. She went back to her food quietly, not having a whole lot to say about anything at the moment.

Faith lowered her eyes but smiled back, and dug into her own food so as not to raise questions. She wasn't sure herself what was going on, let alone how she could explain it. Best ignore it for now.

Faith's smile was rewarded with a wider grin then Daatu'd had on her face in days. "S-So, what kind of movie do you want to see?"

Eyes lighting up, Faith replied, "I think we deserve somethin' with explosions tonight. Cars and guns and explosions. Oh yeah."

"Ooooh!! T-there's that one with the…cars? And the drifting?" Daatu tried but failed to recall the name.

"Ooh yeah, or we could go see that one that everyone on the internet is talking about, something to do with terrorists and snapping turtles?" Faith beamed at the prospect of getting to see a movie, just because she felt like it.

Daatu grinned softly and nodded as she killed her fried rice. "That sounds divine..."

Faith smiled at the other girl's peculiar verbiage, especially considering the subject. "I heard they were planning on calling it something better, but Morgan Freeman was all, 'I signed up for a movie called Turtle Terror, and I'm gonna be in a movie called muthafuckin' Turtle Terror!'" She giggled, eyes twinkling with merriment.

By the time the two girls had finished their meal, the mood had lightened considerably, and they left a generous tip for the considerate waiter.

Daatu was more then happy at this point and she giggled happily at the impression. The theater was not far from the restaurant, and they soon arrived. "I'll get the movie? Since you did dinner?"

"You're on," Faith grinned, as she held open the theater door.

Daatu slid within, tugging her friend after her, and up to the desk to get tickets. 15 bucks and two tickets later found them in seats with sodas and popcorn and sticky floors.

On a weeknight, the theater was almost empty, and Faith took advantage of the legroom, sprawling with her boots up on the back of the seat in front of her and arms along the backs of their row of seats. She grinned at her silver-haired companion, slurping at her drink. "This is the life, eh?"

She'd never been in an almost empty movie theater... but it was fun to have the big room almost to themselves. "Yeah…I spose so!" She was pretty sure that things could get better still but she did not know just how yet.

The lights dimmed as the trailers began, and Faith was soon engrossed in the flickering action on the screen. She munched on her popcorn noisily, grinning like a giddy five-year-old.

Daatu was likewise engrossed in the film and had little to say as she enjoyed the senseless violence.

Faith glanced over as a particularly violent explosion rocked the screen, eager to see her friend's reaction. The orange light of the movie lit up Daatu's face, and Faith was reminded of her savage beauty that night in the infirmary.

The conflagration made Daatu jerk in her seat, but she giggled as she snagged the soda and took a sip or three. This was a good movie. Sure it was a big heap of fan service and CG effects but it was faced paced and action packed.

Her friend's reaction put a wry smile on Faith's face. Shit, how's a girl who can kick someone's ass without raising a sweat get to be so darn CUTE? Agh, no, stop it ya jerk she's your friend. Your cute, single, vulnerable friend.

Daatu laughed out loud at a moment of comical violence on the screen and turned to Faith and gave her a wide, happy smile. This had been just what the doctor had ordered: food and a stupid movie.

Faith grinned back instinctively, as the other girl's glee was contagious. She leaned in, hand accidentally brushing against Daatu's knee, to murmur huskily in her ear, "Having fun, Princess?"

Daatu nodded with gusto and offered Faith a bite of popcorn from her own fingers. "Thank you...for taking me out..." She said softly, her blush going unseen in the darkness of the theater.

"Any time," Faith said, surprising herself with the earnestness of the sentiment. She accepted the morsel with a feline grace, years of practice instinctually conditioning her to do everything in the sexiest way possible.

Daatu shivered slightly at the view afforded to her and she bit her lip as she turned back to the screen, face hot and loins beginning to throb.

She wants you. Everyone wants me, what else is new? She wants to use you. Daatu's not like that, she'd hardly even know how. You know how. Don't you want to use her? To make her body yours, to have power over her, to make her scream your name? ...no...I mean, maybe the name part, but I don't just wanna have sex with her and stuff, I want to make her happy, and see her give that smile again. Realizing the implications of her last thought, Faith likewise turned back to the screen, letting the mindless violence keep her from thinking too hard.

Daatu did not know that Faith was having such internal issues so when she reached over for Faith's hand she had no idea what would happen, but she hoped that the taller girl would let her have it, given their shaky history with physical affection.

Faith's eyes widened as she felt the other girl's small hand clasping hers, but she simply let it happen, thoughts racing. Oh god what is she doing? Well, if it makes her happy, I should let her do it...I mean, it feels nice, actually, in a soft fuzzy way...ew, since when do I care about that shit? She couldn't help but sigh when she realized the answer. Since Daatu.

Faith got a dazzling smile for her effort and another offered bit of popcorn.

Closing her eyes and fighting back the nerves that also seemed to be a recent development, Faith leaned forward for the next morsel, cleavage on display, and her lips accidentally brushed Daatu's fingers as she took the popcorn and quickly returned her gaze to the film.

Daatu's breath caught as Faith’s full lips brushed her fingers and a thrill of sensation shot right through her and straight to her already aching core. How did Faith do it? She didn’t know, but she wanted badly to find out.

Eyes on the screen, Faith sipped the drink. Alright, so she wants me. And I want her. Score, right? But it's gotta be more than a sex thing. So that creep left her for a 'real girlfriend'? I'll show her what it's like to be the 'real girlfriend', then. Gently, Faith squeezed Daatu's hand with a smile, firm in her resolve.

Daatu smiled and squeezed back, but soon took her hand back and went about fidgeting silently as she munched popcorn, agitated about something or other. She was internalizing again....

Faith looked at her friend, puzzled by the lack of hand. She noticed her friend's consternation, and leaned towards her to whisper, "You okay?"

"Yes..." she managed to give Faith a real smile and went back to watching the movie. No sense in worrying the taller girl, after all.

Frowning, Faith poked Daatu in the ribs. "Liar."

"No, really. It's nothing, don't worry huh?" Daatu gave her another soft smile and went back to watching the movie.

Faith shrugged, brows knit. Though she hated being left out of the loop, she decided to respect the other girl's privacy. If it was really important, Daatu would tell her eventually, right?

Daatu managed not to fidget through the rest of the film, or let her amorphous agitation bother her too hard. By the time the movie was over, she had calmed down enough to be less tempted to invade Faith's space, like she had at the dance club.

As the final credits rolled, Faith stood and stretched, groaning with satisfaction. "Mm, what'd you think of that?" she asked, curious if her silent friend had ended up enjoying the movie after all.

"It was good!" Daatu said, genuinely pleased with the film. She'd never seen an 'action' movie before, but had enjoyed the simple pleasure of explosions and bad-assery.

Faith led the way from the theatre, trying not to show her nerves. She was used to being irresistible, but there was a difference between someone wanting to sleep with her and someone wanting to spend time with her. "Great! So, uh, I was thinkin'...we could do it again some time?"

"That would be...very good. I would like that, a lot." Daatu said softly, giving Faith an honest to god Smile this time as they left the theater.

Believing the hard part to be over, Faith beamed happily.

Daatu walked along with Faith, rather quiet, but that was her usual manner. There was an air of frustration about the girl, but again, that was nothing new. The social things that demanded so much finesse often frustrated Daatu, and it was as much a part of her as the silence.

Although she was used to her friend's occasionally taciturn nature, Faith had thought there'd be more fanfare accompanying an agreement to a 'real' date. "So, whatcha thinkin'?"

"Not a lot actually... I am trying to figure out why the lead man said he didn't know that lady but then ten minutes later they were making out in a war-zone." Daatu gave a short laugh and shook her head. "I believe the term is 'plot holes big enough to drive a truck through'.

"Nah, it's not like people never make out with strangers. Besides, if I was in the middle of a war-zone and prob'ly gonna die soon, I'd wanna get in a last hoorah, y'know what I mean?" Faith grinned.

"It would seem like the bullets tearing through the air and the screaming of endless dying would kill the mood." Daatu said, unable to keep her laughter at bay.

"Hey, didn't you ever notice how Slaying always makes ya hungry and horny? Does it for me, at least. 'magine it gets to a point eventually where ya can tune anything out," Faith shrugged, with a slight smirk.

Daatu laughed harder for the statement as they strolled back towards the school. "I...don't think I could ever be that fired up… To ignore death, doom, and destruction for sex..."

Faith smiled at the sound of her friend's laughter, and the warm feelings it gave her. "Heck, if you can't stop it, might as well ignore it. Get your fun while you can, yeah?"

"I guess... I dunno, maybe I have seen too much of it to be able to ignore it..." She said amiably. Her past still haunted her, but it was not nearly as bad as it had been when the two of them had first met.

Though Daatu didn't seem too shaken by the casual confession, it tugged at Faith's heartstrings and compelled her to show a little extra support than that which could be taken for granted. Faith linked her elbow with Daatu's, offering some understated comfort.

Daatu was not sad about it anymore... Between Faith and Yuuki, she was getting over much that plagued her. But...Faith's lips against her fingers made Daatu twitch, just the thought of them...

Noticing the twitch, but not knowing precisely the reason, Faith threaded her fingers through Daatu's, a firmer gesture of solidarity. She kissed the other girl's temple, hoping her awkward attempt at support was not amiss.

A contented sigh left Daatu as Faith tightened her grip on her hand and dropped a kiss to her forehead.... Would it be bad to want those lips elsewhere?

daatu, multi-part
