I think animal owners often value animal specialists more highly than general practitioners, because each species is so different, and each vet has to be more educated and emotionally invested in some than in others. After all, physicians treating our species don't do a sideline in household pets. ;) We don't get that sort of precise guidance in the US... anyone who gets high grades and SAT scores (and money) can get into college and then waste three and a half years deciding what they want to do after they graduate. That's why a lot of students take four or five years even if their grades are solid. (That and there aren't a lot of jobs available to matter what field you decide to go into). ;) I'm glad your daughter was offered a course of study she has a love for, and which stands a good chance of leading to steady lifelong career.
