I think romance died the day men realized that sometimes women need sex too. Perhaps.

My alternative to this is just the difference in sexes as well. Men, will impress to get, women impress to keep. But when women aren't impressed by men who got, they no longer wanna keep. So yes! Effort on both sides...I really know nothing about relationships, I'm just spouting off...what I do know is, if I like someone, I'm going to want to do stuff (cute domestic-type things) for that someone, but I need to be maintained as well...or else my desire to keep happy goes away.

I think Ive run into that too. The few guys who have done 'gestures' did them at the beginning of the relationship... and they die off quickly.

Romance has many different faces, and even more names. So many people tend to search for exactly the above description...you have to remember...romance is also about the little things...like if you aren't feeling well, your s/o taking care of you...even when you look like that chick from the exorcist and they tell you that you are beautiful. Romance is the sweet things they do for you....I guess that is just my thing.

I agree... unfortunately these happenings tend to disappear quickly after the initial honeymoon phase of a relationship.. in my experience anyways.

That's when you kick him in the ass and say "romance me you jackass"...remember..they are men...you need to be stern with them lol.

And to answer that question of when it died. It probably shares its time of death with chivalry. And we all know how that died. But as you said romance is never one sided, tho i wouldnt even know what it looks like it still doesnt mean that all the other things expressed are not as/or if not more important than something as simple as romance. I agree with chantelle and her last post pre-mine. And also like i remember it was said before....romance is a two way street like everything else in a relationship....give and take....if there is too much of either it will fail. And most times when it "dies off" it is cause it has been taken for granted or not returned....and in which spoils it for the relationship that follows considering the jaded nature of your mindset.
