The Magic Circle

namastenancy and I made a pact to post beautiful art between now and the new year. This is my choice of the day; I was going to post Burne-Jones' "King Cophetua and the Beggar Maid", an old favourite, but I came across this picture (unfamiliar to me) and decided to substitute it for its mysterious, evocative qualities. Not only is this by
one of my favourite artists, it combines many of my favourite things - trees, a boat, water, the colour blue; a sense of inner depths. I'd love to know what the title means, and in what context Burne-Jones painted it.
