secret garden

when i was in new york i remember coming across some tiny little garden right on houston street, some tiny little corner property right there surrounded by big city streets but when you step inside, its so full and thriving with life you lose yourself. and i wondered - was all this planted later, or was this one tiny square of the original new york flora that was never paved over. how weird that the entire island was once totally wild and plant and now finding a small patch surprises us

i can;'t get over the turtles. the building behind the garden is a squat, but i beleive it is the type that is sanctioned, i don't know its name.
i think most of new york used to be marshy ocean side aluvial fan deposit from the rivers. i'm always kind of disturbed by that.
