Rather sweet story. I love John H/C.

Although, one comment. Um... the Duchess of Edinburgh? By definition she would be the wife of the Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of Edinburgh being Prince Philip, husband of the Queen? I'm not sure she actually has the title, what with having a more important one, but it is rather contrary when you say the Queen doesn't owe him a favour shortly before.

Final thought: loved the continuing description of the box, very nicely done.

If you want to go for a non-existant title you might try Wessex which doesn't even exist as a place anymore. There's an Earl of Wessex (Prince Edward, one of the Queen's sons - if you've ever seen Shakespeare in Love you'll know the Colin Firth character was the Earl of Wessex. Edward stole the name from there) but no Duke or Duchess

Otherwise, pick a county any county. Or borrow someone from this list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:British_duchesses_by_marriage

Although I'd advise avoiding Cambridge (Kate Middleton), Cornwall (Camilla, Prince Charles' wife) and York (Prince Andrew's wife) if you want to stay out of the immediate royal family.
