Patrick can be as upset as he wants, and he has the right to. However, we all know how important Laura is to you and you also have the right to do whatever it takes to try to work things out, and he shouldn't be making this any harder for you.

You just need to tell him: "Look, Patrick, this thing between Laura and I needs to be resolved, or at least settled with some closure. And I'm going to do what I have to in order to get that done. I understand that you are upset with her for hurting me, and it's comforting to know that you are being protective of me, but this is something I have to do and you're just going to have to let it be. I'm an adult and I can take care of myself, and if you decide to make this harder for me then I'll just have to do this without you at all."

ive got to say as a total outsider on the situation. im really impressed with how u are handling it. a situation like that would really zing me bad. its hard to draw the line where u can start to forgive and forget. sometimes being hurt and mad really just gets inconvienient.
if that makes any sense :)
