Silk, not as nice as you'd think

I have started my first project using bamboo double-pointed needles: a pair of wrist warmers ('cos really, who doesn't need more wrist warmers?) worked in silk. Silk's a funny material, all shiny and soft yet at the same time slippery as hell and prone to separating. Over an hour it took me to convert the skein into a useable (and portable ball). Ooh, neat! I can just see you being all dangerous and forbidding on the tube with your pointy-pointies and scaring the other commuters. For some reason, that makes me grin.

I'm going to learn how to knit in the round sometime next month. We'll see how I go, but I can tell you right now that I'm not going to try silk anytime soon.

Have you signed up to Ravelry yet? If not, it's worth getting on the waiting list as they are clearing about 1,200 invites a week which is faster than people are signing up. I think it going from beta to public isn't going to be happening particularly soon, probably not this year.

I may stear clear of silk in the future, it's nice and all and good for lacy things, but fiddly. It was on sale when I bought it, so it needs using up.

Socks are my next challenge, just a couple of baby things to knit before the first pair come up in my Ravelry queue.

Oh, and I always scare the other commuters ;-)

Just put my name on the list. I don't do much knitting - I'm more of a crocheter - but roklobster's going to teach me how to make a few more interesting things soon.

Why am I not surprised that you always scare the other commuters? You're kind of my hero.
