My Greatest Hits

Nov 21, 2007 21:23

Hello LJers! I am still feeling comfortable and relieved in my fanfic retirement. Lately I have been having a nostalgia trip; rereading some of my old stories and remembering how I felt when I wrote them. It has made me realise how this little hobby has strengthened me as a writer and how reader feedback has really helped me gain new confidence. I ( Read more... )

One of Our Own.... I remember this one very well. I absolutely loved it. It seems so long ago. My top favorite of yours are 'The Trials of Fate', 'The Spirit of Friendship' and 'Only the Good Die Young'. They help me so much dealing with Charlie's death.... I cannot thank you enough for writing these fics. :)

I found many of my early fics a little patchy when I looked back at them, but OooO was still strong. It's almost a year now since I wrote that one! I'm glad that my stories helped to combat your Charlie grief. Your vids did the same for me!

Yay! Thanks for taking up my fanfic memory challenge, pace. Those are some of my favourite fics of yours too (though there are several others you didn't include - The Ends of the Earth, The Underground and most recently Washed Ashore). It's made me realise though...I read most of these fics before I had an LJ account or even a fanfic.net account. So even though I've read them I've never given you comments. I should ammend that. Over the next few days I'll add comments to the older fics of yours that I've really enjoyed (should I do so on LJ or FFnet?). I feel like I should since I got a lot out of those stories. I'm pretty sure I've read most if not all of them. And I'm still trying to work through sapphs archive!

Thank you so much, lenina! That's very kind of you. Read as many (or as few) stories as you like. There is no pressure. I don't wish to add to your stress! But I'm pleased you're excited.

Thanks for putting this together. I'm always interested in hearing about the writing process. Seeing this list just reminds me what a diverse author you are, balancing long action packed mythology stories, goofy moments, missing scenes, darkness, and light and sweetness with nuanced portrayals of each character. Trials of Fate helped pull me into reading and writing fic again. I was trying to figure out the world of Lost fic and Livejournal and then I stumbled across your series on ficinabottle and realized this is the place I want to be. I also really enjoyed He is Risen, both the original and the expanded version. Fangirl could have just been a rant but it was hilarious. Belly of Whale made a lot of sense, even if this particular comment does not! I re-read Spirit of Friendship and Sharing the Night more than once. Both stories are poignantly written and hit hard. I hadn't read four of these and will now make the time to read and comment soon!

*blushes* Thank you, ell! I'm so chuffed that 'Trials of Fate' was the first Lost fic you read and it made such an impression on you. I'm also pleased that you think my character portrayals are nusanced. I'd never want to write any of the characters as perfect people - even my favourites, you know?

I hope you like my older stories. 'Only the Good...' and 'The Sacrifice' are both quite introspective and sombre like your own fics. My favourite fics tend to be the Charlie-centric ones, but I also have quite an archive of Desmond-centred fics which deal more with his issues. You might like them too!

Do you have any favourite memories of your own fanfic writing experience?

*Clapping hands* Your retirement won't be so hard if I have a backlog of older stories to discover. In addition to this list, I will definitely go back and explore your archives. Yay! And I do plan to read your original stories too. Sadly, the sacrifice to adding reading and writing fic to my life has meant I've left little time for other reading. I used to devour a novel or two a week, and now I’m fitting in only one or two a month ( ... )

I'm glad you're enjoying rooting through my archives. I'm afraid it's almost all Charlie or Desmond centered fics because (unlike you) I just got kinda fixated on two characters and wrote for them constantly!

Don't worry too much about reading my original fic. It's stuff I wrote as a teenager, so I find it a little naive and silly now. I just wanted it to exist somewhere other than on my word documents after all the work I did.

The Penny parts in Ebb & Flow were my favourites too. Even though Penny is only a minor character she is one of my favourites and I love to write for her. I think Guishin has got to be my favourite of your fics. It's so atmospheric. I think it went beyond the Sixth Sense prompt. It had it's own special tone.

Jacob story??? Cool!

I am SO doing this when I get back home from Penang.

Oh man, I remember reading "The Sacrifice" and just bawling my eyes out like an idiot. That fic just hit me so SO hard. I guess it was a combination of the timing and how I myself was feeling with Charlie's imminent demise on the horizon and just...man. That one really hit me - probably harder than any other fanfiction I've ever read.

"It's the five best moments of my...sorry excuse for a life."

Cool sapph! I'd love to see you list your own favourite fanfic memories. I've only written about 25 fics, but you've got over a 100 to chose from!

I remember your reaction to 'Sacrifice' so vividly. I was almost in tears reading your review! It was the most depressing this to write, but at least it had impact.

Hope you are enjoying your trip!

120 at least - at last count anyways.

I still remember reading it. I was all but hysterical afterwards and then I went and recced it on my journal.

I did enjoy my trip! And now that I'm back I'm off to go do this on my own journal!
