The Top Ten Worst Things that Ever Happened to Jesse Pinkman

Apr 02, 2014 20:52

Day 2 of BrBa Appreciation Week. Happy Pinkman Day! So I wanted to do a Jesse top ten of sorts and the most obvious topic to go for seemed to be ranking the many many personal tragedies that Jesse has suffered. This is a scary list to compile, especially when you realize you have no room for things like Jesse melting a dead body in his bathtub or ( Read more... )

sigh... poor jesse. he tried so hard to do the right things and it just never quite worked out. stupid walt! i agree with your rankings 100% especially with killing Gale being #1. that was where he was really ripped apart and he was never quite the same after that. and then to come to the realization that he (and many others) would've been about a billion times better off if walt HAD died that night just makes it that much worse. man, it's so depressing reading all those moments in a row like that!

I don't really agree with that. Being a meth cook/dealer is doing the wrong thing and that's something Jesse did for five seasons. And Jesse was a drug dealer long before he ever partnered with Walt. But I've always felt that Jesse's biggest flaw is that he's easily led. It took him five seasons to develop his own sense of morality, which was largely shaped by how horrified Jesse was at Walt and the rest of the meth underworld.

Vince Gilligan really took writing 101 'make your characters go through hell' very seriously... That's a bit overwhelming when it's all combined like that...

The only character I can think of who went through worse is Theon Greyjoy.

Theon's physical torture was worse but I think Jesse's emotional torture was worse than Theons. And there are just so many varied examples of Jesse suffering cruel and unusual tragedies. Overwhelming is the word for it.

Thanks for your comment. I didn't mean to undermine the psychological torture that Theon goes through because I know that was extensive too and I do have feels for that character too. If you feel Theon's trauma was worse than Jesse's trauma then I can't argue with you too much. All I can say is that Jesse's emotional suffering hits me harder. That may be partly because Jesse is a more major character (and therefore more richly developed) than Theon in his respective show. Or because BrBa is set more in the real world than GoT.

*gasp* No mention of the dinner party from hell in 'Buyout'? But maybe that'd be better suited for a 'most awkward scenes' list though xP

Poor Jesse though, this list hurts my heart with its accuracy.

LOL. Have you seen this fanvid by chance? It did make me laugh when they included that scene last like having dinner with the Walt and Skyler was the peak of Jesse's suffering.

It is the most painful dinner ever.

The worst part is I could've made a list three times as long. There's a lot of stuff I had to leave out.

Yeah, I could agree with that. I don't know if you can really rank killing someone, watching your ex-girlfriend get shot in front of you, and waking up next to your other dead girlfriend. I think they would all kind of jostle for the number one spot. Perhaps it would depend on what day it was.

I think someone on Tumblr has trademarked WORST LIFE EVER as a Jesse Pinkman copyright.

Ha ha, I read a story on A03 a little while ago, and I thought, man, this story must have been written for falafel; I will have to tell her about it. Then I got to the end and saw you were the first one to give it a Kudo and a comment. Ha ha! It was How To Save A Life. If it hadn't been for the last line, I would have been convinced you'd commissioned it.

Yes, the top three were definitely the hardest to order. They all caused Jesse serious lasting damage and actually changed him as a person, each time. And I'm realizing now that I haven't even added that 'Jesse spent six months as a dehumanized meth slave'. That's kind of a biggie too, right? Oh Jesse you have too many WORST THINGs in your life!

Yeah, I liked that fic a lot! Which seems a strange thing to say about a fic where Jesse dies repeatedly.
