For us in the First World, there are no longer natural contingencies, only social ones. That is to say, evolution has ceased in the Darwinian sense: we have no predators, nor, in the upper echelons of class society, do we have any tangible scarcity of resources. Our only obstacles, therefore, are constructed by the organization of social space.
