I could imagine not wanting any "stuff" if I had all the money I needed to be comfortable. Hell, even now, I'm not really craving much in the way of stuff. It's just not that important, nothing wrong with that

Ah, hello puffinjuice! Long time no talk...

Well, I think the big thing is taxes. Financially, I'm being gobbled alive and will continue to be until I have a mortgage. Right now, everything in Westchester, and specifically in a few places, is going to increase in value. And, there's every likelihood that if I could just get into a house, between the tax break and a few other factors, I could afford something substantially better in, say, five years. But not if I wait. If I wait, the money will slowly drain away like it always has, and the rent money will be paid for nothing, and then the opportunity will be lost.

So that's why the pressure. It's just going to take a while to find the right one and I am not blessed with much patience or a capacity for delayed gratification, as your friend will no doubt agree.

Hey!

Don't fee pressured to by a house. My aunt lives in Westchester, and she didn't buy a house until about 4 years ago (she's nearly 50 now). The suburbs aren't even that safe anymore... kids down here on LI get busted for drugs and guns and such all the time. Stay in the apartment until you can move someplace nice, then it'll be worth it.

Nothing is wrong with you, you just know that there's more to life than material posessions. That's a really good thing. :)
