Who: Euram and Lo Hak
When: After the
bathtime fun. What: Lo Hak demands an apology and the angst that has become Euram's life gets worse.
Euram idly played with the petals of a flower growing along one of the paths near the manor. He was again looking for some alone time as his attempt at the baths the day before had ended in…unpleasantness. He’d found these moments increasingly necessary the more complicated his thoughts became. It was nice to be able to focus them on something simply; like would Lymselia like this flower and how many should he give her.
Lo Hak needed to be out of the baths. Looking at the hole just made him upset and frustrated, and he didn't need that. He decided to walk near the manor, knowing there was flowers there, and figuring he could try and lighten the bath's appearance with some of the flowers there. He paused he spotted Euram, biting his lip. He debated going over, but decided he should. He needed to talk to him, and this was a good opportunity and no one else was around. He made his way over and coughed. "Euram," he said.
Euram spun around instantly when he heard the cough. He had been on edge before, but it had gotten much worse since Alenia had shown up. It actually took him a moment to realize who is was and longer to remember his name. After the initial shocked motion, he stood straight and put on his best nobleman smirk. “Yes? Did you want something?”
Lo Hak had to hold back from giving the little prick a street-scuffle grade punch to the mouth at the smirk. "I wanted to apologize, again, for what happened the other night. It was an accident."
At the time it had happened Euram had been very upset and naturally yelled at him because of it. Now he was slightly calmer so the reminder only brought a twitch to his smirk as he attempted to repress the irritation. “Ah yes,” he said simply. “One must always keep close watch on their movements so such does not happen again!” A statement that would have been much more salient if he hadn’t almost hit the flowers multiple times with all of his arm movements.
Lo Hak sort of balked a bit at the exaggerated movements. "Yeah, I should have been more careful. But... you know, Euram, you didn't have to call me all those names or yell at me like that."
The smirk left Euram’s face at the reprimand. He was never good at hiding his emotions, and despite his best efforts the confusion and hurt that always came from reprimands showed quite prominently, if even for a moment. He’d already forgotten calling him names, but wasn’t about to let that on. “Names?” he said laughing it off. “Ah such exaggeration. Surely you can tell the difference between a yell and merely emphatic statements, haha.”
Lo Hak's brow furrowed. "'Uncouth ruffian', 'clumsy oaf', and more," Lo Hak reminded him. "And, to be honest, part of the mess at the baths WAS your fault. You're not the only one to blame, Euram, but I think you owe me a bit of an apology too."
Euram flinched at the reminder of each of the insults he’d thrown. Most of him didn’t feel bad about it, but there was that one little part that was trying to figure out how to fit in here that did. Luckily for him the further reprimand put him on defensive so he didn’t have to think about it for long. “MY fault?” he repeated looking scandalized. “I caused no mess! I merely bathed and left once the waters became polluted. What are you implying?”
"I'm just implying that I'd like an apology for last night. You overreacting and making snide comments doesn't help anything. In fact, they make it worse. All I'm asking for is an apology for what happened and we can leave it at that," Lo Hak stood his ground, blue eyes sparking.
Euram didn’t see what he had done wrong. He hadn’t overreacted; he’d been thrown into polluted water by another’s clumsiness so naturally he had been upset. “I see no reason to apologize,” Euram said a tad offended. Lo Hak had barely been a blip on his radar before this and so to offer him something like that when he hadn’t been given anything in return (in his mind) didn’t make sense. “I reacted quite reasonably, you are merely overreacting to that reaction.”
Lo Hak balked at that, staring in shock. "Overreacting?" he protested. "Overreacting? Euram, you helped turned what might have been a small argument into a fiasco, which escalated to the point I now have a HOLE in my divider screen!" He glared at the boy, bearing down on him, blue eyes flaming growing rage - which was hard to do when it came to Lo Hak. "The very LEAST you can do is apologize! You didn't even stick around to help clean, and you're acting like I should be grateful you aren't having some sort of tantrum right now! I said I was sorry, you could at least do the same and own up to the fact you're somewhat in the wrong!"
Euram matched Lo Hak’s shock and upped the anti with being scandalized. “How dare you!” he almost yelled. He thought it was completely unfair that he was being blamed for all of this. All he’d done after all was attempt to leave, he didn’t cause any physical damage. “I did nothing of the sort! How dare you pin the blame on me for a hole that was not there at any time I was! And you expected me to what? Scrub the blood from your bath like some slave in penance for a crime I didn’t commit?!”
"No, you ingrate!" Lo Hak shot back, rapidly loosing his temper with this fop. "I'm not blaming you for that! I'm just saying you helped get it to that point. You owe me an apology for at least calling me those names if nothing else!"
Euram, quite frankly, was sick of being yelled at and blamed for things to his face. He never had to deal with anything like back in Falena, and now to have it be an almost daily occurrence and especially for things he didn’t even do was too much. He had already lost his temper as anger was the easiest outlet for every other emotion he was feeling. “Rubbish!” he shouted at him. “I will do no such thing while you are being so disrespectful!”
That was so IT. Lo Hak growled and pulled back his arm and punched Euram - hopping to nail him in the nose/cheek area and knock him flat on his ass.
Euram heard the impact before he felt it, and the force was enough to send him to the ground. He grasped at his injured cheek almost squealing in pain as he scrambled backwards as well as he could with one hand occupied as it was. He didn’t say anything beyond the pained sounds and he just stared up at Lo Hak completely horrified to see if anymore attacks were to follow.
Lo Hak was gritted his teeth, glaring at Euram. "You insufferable little fop!" he growled. "Goddess, no wonder everyone around here hates you! I don't give a damn if you're a noble or a street kid like me, get some guts and own up to the things you do! Who knows, you prick, you might actually get some friends!"
Euram was prepared to block any further physical attacks, by curling up into a ball while trying to get away, but he had no defense against the words. The same things that had been repeated to him either by others or lately by himself. He was already in pain from the punch and now he was close to completely loosing it. His mind was going every which way and all he knew was that he needed to leave…right now. He scrambled backwards further before finally regaining his footing. He stared at Lo Hak, eyes wide with fright, hand still grasping his injured cheek. He breathed heavily as he tried to hide back tears, but this look was only for a moment before he turned away and ran as quickly as he could back towards the manor.
Lo Hak watched him go, knowing he would feel guilty later, but for right now all he felt was seething anger. He turned on his heel and stomped back to the baths, nursing his bruised knuckles and seething the entire way.
